Driving in the wet
I don't get it. Its a stormy morning here in Melbourne and the first time I've driven the 86 in the rain since I've run her in. She drives beautifully! There is plenty of grip if you want it but with the push of a button and flex of your ankle you can hold the car at almost any angle through a corner. So i ask, why are there so many threads about how scary the car is to drive in these conditions? :iono:

Maybe some people can't drive ? Advanced driving practice on a racetrack should be mandatory, especially if you have a new car. And in a sense I love this weather cos me celica has too much grip at times, the wet makes it more adjustable :)

because a whole lot of owners are coming from FWD shitboxes that understeer in the wet rather than oversteer.
best example is that guy that crashed his FRS in the states taking a corner that he'd "taken every day in my honda CRX" with traction control off. he gunned it mid corner like he always had and then ended up with a tree inside his car. |

I think it is amazing fun in the wet!! I love it :D

You'd be amazed at the number of individuals who don't quite understand the physics of rear wheel drive and buy this car and expect it to handle like a gti in the rain.
This car is beyond fun in the wet with no nannies though! Not quite the same as a truck in a field but still a dream. |
@ Varv - Yes & no. If I gun me celica hard into a corner it will swap ends. If the driver has the skills he/she can control what the car does. When I first drove the 86 one of the first sensations I experienced was understeer. And the 86 is not like an MR2 which can snap - it's far more progressive & so essentially the use of some common sense is needed. One must explore the car carefully & become accustomed to what it can do. Lack of skill will get you undone.

this thing is so easy to drive in the wet!
coming from my hilux, 380nm v6, light truck tyres with no grip, no weight over the back (single cab). that thing would drive down a straight road sidways.. |
Glad to see its not just me. I really feel the 86 has a lot of grip in the wet, certainly more than most cars I've owned.

Riding a bike isn't easy for everyone, neither is driving
