Bazooka tube sub?
 

Ok. So I'm in need of bass. I miss it way too much. Lol. My problem is space (who's isn't though). I'm not a huge audio guy and am not looking to spend much at all on audio. Stock speakers are great and the HU is ok for now. I don't want to drop 300+ on a stealthbox or whatever and thought of the Bazooka tubes. Small, seems easy to remove if needed, and relatively cheap. I am coming from a pair a 12 Sony Xplods running off a Rockford amp and they did a damn good job as far as I'm concerned. With this in mind will the sound disappoint me? I'm looking at getting a 10" this time. TIA.

I used to have an 8" Bazooka in my GTi. It had its own amplifier...which was tiny. I really enjoyed the sound. It won't be anywhere near your 2 12" subs but will definitely sound better than stock. I'm thinking about picking up another soon but need to find a good location.

It's also easy to remove if you need extra space at some point. Just one connector and it's out.

I bought one of these. It's a small sub with a integrated 100 watt amp. wx-50 pioneer I believe. They came stock in the rsx type s. It fits into the spare tire. basically replacing the chunk of foam that does nothing.

Bazooka tubes are good. They fill a niche.

I got the 8" bazooka pre-amped sub installed. Adds plenty of bass for my taste.

how is the sound quality of these?

In the past I used concrete sonotube form with MDF rings to create a quick "Tube" enclosure. It sounded great and was cheap to put together.

I have used powered Bazookas in both my Supra and the 240z, best bang for the buck installation and sound-wise. I did see the S/O powered sub from Crutchfield in their latest catalog, it looks nice. Smaller footprint, but same difference. I won't use the Bazooka in the FR-S because I want the full tire-loading experience and I am pretty happy right now with the stock stereo.

Thanks guys. I think the Bazooka is what I'm looking for. Good sound, fits in the trunk, and easy to remove when needed. Now let me see if I can manage to sell my Rockford amp for enough to pay for it. Haha

Its a 5.25" woofer with a built in 50watt RMS amp. It cost me $79 off ebay. I think they used to be $199 new. Anyway, the sound quality is good for a 5.25. It isn't going to impress someone down the block, or probably even outside the car. It adds some bass and doesn't take any of the prime real estate.

I have not upgraded the door and dash speakers yet, but plan too. I have a nice Class a/b amp that I plan on using for them. I figure then I'll be happy with the sound.

Where are you guys mounting the Bazooka straps? My thoughts were to mount it on the passenger side of the trunk with the sub facing to the back of the vehicle. The problem I am running into is that the manual suggests having the plastic brackets on the bottom, but this will not work for two reasons:

1) It would make the spare inaccessible
2) There is styrofoam under the trunk carpet

I'd like to keep the damage to a minimum with the install. Any suggestions?

I have my Bazooka strapped down to a piece of 1/4" plywood. It's about 16" wide, and as long as the sub is. I'll carpet it eventually. It fits in the trunk, doesn't move around at all, and is easily removable if I need to get to the spare.

There is no audio product that will ever disappoint you. Get the Bazooka. :thumbsup:

Just finished installing the BTA10250D..

This isn't going to impress an audiophile; but when properly adjusted it sounds pretty decent. I've had the crazy systems when I was a wee grasshopper and I'm over it. For the 86 this fits the bill very well.

At $200, I don't know how you could possibly best it. It's an inexpensive, self contained setup that sounds pretty darn good. It's fairly light weight if you compare it to a full box+sub+amp set up. The only improvement would be in the mounting department. I'd def buy this again.

I added the JBL MSBass Pro SQ, its a 10" sub in a ported box with 300w amp. It's pretty large but you can take it out easily if neccessary. I just used some velcro and it doesn't move around at all. It honestly sounds like a pair of 10's or a really nice 12". Retail is $500 but i got lucky on ebay for $200 shipped.
