Need opinions on two new items we're developing!

EDIT: 12/2/2012

Thank you everyone for your feedback! The initial design phase is complete, the plaques fit like a glove, and we're offering three engraving options at the moment. You can still order a customized one if you like, just shoot me a PM!

Please direct all comments to the new thread! Since this product is now available, I'm allowed to discuss pricing and other product details in the vendor forums, but not here.

Original Post:

Hey everyone, I'm looking for some feedback on two new parts I'm working on at the moment. One isn't exactly a cosmetic modification, in fact, it's not really a modification at all, but it links my two favorite hobbies together in a safe way - beer and cars. The other part is something my friend came up with.

Long story short, he ordered a plastic piece that covers up where the heated seat controls go in the BRZ and wanted a more personal touch, so I'm making him a plaque engraved with the day he bought his car. Now I know not everyone here wants something that personal on their car, so I came up with a few other more 'generic' designs, as well as a cool idea we came up with before we decided on the birth/purchase date of his car. I wanted to engrave the last six digits of the VIN onto the plate since that's about as close to an identification number as you can get. For example, my car was 000609 off the line, and while it's not one of the first 100, that's pretty low and I'm glad I purchased my car as early as I did.

Anyways, here are the 'generic' designs as well as the one I'm working on for him. It's a work in progress so pretty much anything can change from now until the final product is made.

http://www.yospeed.com/2012-scion-fr...e-inserts2.jpg

I'd like to hear thoughts on the designs as well as any ideas for other designs the community would like to see.

The first and fourth design (top left and bottom left) I think would look really clean and simple and allow for a personal touch. I couldn't decide if it looked better with "Unit" or "Vin" or if it just looked better with nothing... :mad0259:

The second and fifth design (top center and bottom center) are the more generic design I wanted to make for people who wanted a simple plaque that wouldn't over personalize the car. The bottom is more "blingy" with the ball endmill spot drills, but I thought it matched the center piece just above it by the shift knob.

The third (top right) is the personalized one I'm working on for my friend. We decided to change it up a bit, so this one will likely be trashed. :(

The last one is another generic design for people who want a simple plaque to fill in the empty space on the console.

The second item I wanted to share are something I made more for myself but I thought would be a good idea to make available to everyone. :happy0180: Drink coasters!

My co-workers love to visit breweries and go beer tasting and they drag me along on occasion. As a result, I've been growing pretty fond of the stuff myself. I ended up making a few coasters for myself which you can see below, but i wanted to make a set for one of my co-workers who is still saving up for his FR-S.

Anyway, enough walls of text. Here are some photos!

Close up shot:

I made them slightly larger than your average drink coaster and added a "sweat lip" to make a little moat area for the condensation that builds up on the glass!

Another close up:

This is my set. I have a lot of hobbies, so I like to mix them up when I can. Enjoying craft beers, playing games, modifying cars, I love it all!

http://www.yospeed.com/2012-scion-fr...2-coasters.jpg

Alright guys, I'd love to hear feedback on these two items. If the response is positive, I'd like to have them made readily available a week or two before Christmas so people can enjoy them in time for the holidays.

What do you like about the current designs?

If you could create your own design, how would it look?

Like all of my products, I will be offering personalized engraving, so if you don't like any of the default designs in the end, you can always create your own design, but I'd like to make a few stock options for people who want a simple add-on and don't want to spend a lot of time in illustrator or some other program drawing out something for their car.

Thanks everyone. I hope you're all having a great weekend and enjoying it with loved ones! :thanks:

I like the coasters and the plaque with the 86 and just the vin number is cool. How much are we talking for 4 coasters?

asphalt86_915 11-25-2012 06:03 PM

Hey there all great designs I would really enjoy having one in my car and the coasters are cool to

whaap 11-25-2012 06:04 PM

I like your product. I would be interested with an FR-S with the solid line under the
FR-S and below that solid line #709672. Let me know your pricing.

ZetaVI 11-25-2012 06:24 PM

I like your designs very much! Those plaques look absolutely amazing!

CrazyWookiee 11-25-2012 06:30 PM

Looking good. Really liking the plaques. Do you have a ball park # how much one is going to be?

I like he shift pattern one and maybe "Toyota 86" in place of the Sunday 28th map writing.

Sutty 11-25-2012 06:32 PM

Both items look great, just my 2c worth.
The engraving of the 86 logo needs to be thicker (deeper & wider).
Any chance of enamelling the 86 logo in either black or red like genuine 86 badges?
Can you machine the little kick out bits on the upper left corners of the holes on the 8 and 6?

#87 11-25-2012 06:36 PM

Dat protoss coaster

How much for protoss on the square for my car

finch1750 11-25-2012 06:55 PM

Nice. How much for a set of 4 coasters?

xclusive_brett 11-25-2012 09:33 PM

looks nice!

Superhatch 11-25-2012 09:54 PM

I'd love to see see some pics of the covers in the car!

Interested in date and build number combo.

whataboutbob 11-25-2012 10:04 PM

Top left insert (w/o unit#) and beer coasters here.

Coasters are sic looking!

Just noticed the Stone Brew in the background, you in SD county?

Got3n 11-25-2012 10:11 PM

Id buy any of those, take my money! Also is it possible for a custom design?

ph0en1xtk 11-25-2012 11:16 PM

i also would probably be interested in the console plate with a protoss logo instead of fr-s lol

djliquidsteele 11-25-2012 11:37 PM

I think the first one would look a little better if you centered the 86 logo in the space above the line. It just looms too high. Id buy one like that.

I'd like the shift knob design with day of bought

20valvewynn83 11-26-2012 01:33 AM

I think #3 is the best one but I think if it had an 86 logo or 86 piston logo at the bottom that would be cool

Calidrifter 11-26-2012 02:07 AM

Love stone's end of the world brew.

yospeed 11-26-2012 02:13 AM

Wow! Lots of feedback on the first day. I'll try to address questions the best I can!

Thank you!

I'd love to release pricing information, but there are two factors that prevent me from doing so. First, I haven't created an optimized cycle for these yet. That basically means I don't know how much time I'll be putting into each set, and how much fabrication costs are, but I'll be working over the next few days to get them as low as possible. Secondly, the forum rules specifically prohibit vendors from discussing pricing in a thread like this. Once pricing becomes available, I will post up that information in the vendor forum, where it's allowed.

I love the administration here so far and I'd like them to love me too, so I'll be doing my best to keep my posts in this specific sub-forum as non-commercial as possible. It's just a feeler to make sure I'm making a product that everyone wants, and not something I think you want.

I can definitely do that for you! Once pricing is available, I'll post it in the commercial forums. I'll do my best to keep you up to date on when that will be as well.

Toyota 86 is definitely a great idea!

Per the above replies, I can't post pricing information here. They will be in the "stocking stuffer" pricing range if that helps? I can't post a specific price here, sorry. :(

I was thinking the same thing. The problem is some people prefer really light laser like etching, and others prefer deep engraving. I prefer deep engraving, but I'm a machinist so my opinion is pretty biased.

I don't have any experience with enamel but so many people have been requesting it I think I might need to give it a go.

What do you mean by machine out the kick out bits? You want them to go all the way through the metal to the plastic underneath?

Glad to see another Starcraft fan! I don't think I'll be offering any Blizzard paraphernalia, but if you want something personalized feel free to shoot me a PM or e-mail once they're available for purchase. I'd be glad to make a custom plaque for you!

Per the above quotes, I'm not allowed to post pricing information in non-commercial forums, but the pricing will be very reasonable. I've been looking around at other metal coaster manufacturers and I should be able to meet or beat their pricing when it's all said and done!

I'll get some installed photos ASAP!

By date and build number, you want the date of purchase on top and the build number below it? That can definitely be done!

I'm thinking the "unit" might have been a bad idea. Thanks for the feedback!

I'm closer to Disneyland, but I love driving down to visit Stone's brewery, it's an amazing place! An 86 meet there would be pretty awesome :D

Custom is always an option. I encourage it! Doing the same old designs gets monotonous for me. I love when people ask for unique designs!

Love it! Lots of Protoss people here. Toss will definitely be the race to play in Heart of the Swarm. The mass recall of the Mothership Core is soooo useful, and I love Oracles.

Definitely. I might try to make it so you can choose FR-S/86/Piston and other options, like adding toppings to a pizza. Not sure how I'd implement it on our website yet.

Thanks everyone for the wonderful feedback! Everything posted here will help in developing the final product so I can make something everyone will be able to enjoy.

Totally agree. I called in sick from my Internet Security class to drive down to San Diego just to pick some up. It's delicious!

Tim_Asphalt_FRS 11-26-2012 03:02 AM

I really like the 86 logo w/ the VIN#. Any chance of doing the GT-86 logo from the EU models?

I mean the 'skid marks' in the upper left corner of the 8 and 6 'holes'. They would only be as deep as the rest of the engraving/etching.

yospeed 11-26-2012 03:24 AM

Ah I see. That might be something I can do!

lbroskee 11-26-2012 04:06 AM

if you keep coming out with such great stuff i'll never be able to buy any mechanical mods after my exhaust!! (would def replace the plastic one i got from ebay with this)

whaap 11-26-2012 08:07 AM

Thanks for the response. It looks like you hit the nail on the head. I agree that deeper, thicker cuts would look a little better.

Maik L 11-26-2012 10:20 AM

...and maybe color would be a good idea. perhaps from the red interior :iono:

raul 11-26-2012 11:22 AM

Great ideas overall! I like em. However, sorry to poop on your designs, but your 86 logo isn't up to snuff. You're missing the blur streaks to to the left at the top of each number opening. Like so:

SPEEDGOD 11-26-2012 03:00 PM

I'd like one just with the 86 logo centered, how much is it for one? Thanks

SubieNate 11-26-2012 03:24 PM

Just a thought, I think attaching felt to the bottom of the coasters would be beneficial since they're made of of a material that could easily become cold enough to ruin it's own functionality by encouraging condensation of the coaster itself. :)

fl_speed001 11-26-2012 11:55 PM

Will have to keep an eye on the development of both of these products, looking good so far.

Hentaicle 11-27-2012 12:58 AM

So do these coasters actually fit into the cup holders in the car? Or are these just regular coasters for home?

DarkReign 11-27-2012 01:06 AM

Love the designs. How about adding Hachi Roku in either english or hirigana on the right side plaque options?

Grip Ronin 11-27-2012 01:16 AM

i like them id take one wit vin, date and piston logo

If there are enough people willing to do a group buy of some sort, I could have a small batch anodized or powder coated red or black. Optimistically I'd like to offer both colors as an option since I love both!

Already on it sir! I've actually decided to go with a cork backing. It's a little bit classier and should be more durable, and it's only a little bit pricier than felt.

I haven't tested to see if they'd fit in the cup holder area, but I'm sure I could make a smaller/larger version to fit if people wanted.

Love it! I used to put "Yonehara"(my last name. Hence, 'Yo'speed) in Kanji on all of my products, but people would always ask what that "wierd Chinese stuff" meant.

DarkReign 11-27-2012 02:48 AM

Could also use the numerical Kanji for "86" if space becomes a factor...

mattles 11-27-2012 02:51 AM

6spd shift pattern with a solid line, then under it first86# OR vin# would be A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.

AsphaltLover 11-27-2012 02:55 AM

simple 86 logo with some red coloring to match a little better.

id buy the shit out of both of those.

Nardi330 11-27-2012 03:35 AM

amazing items but no love for us with heater switches....

Andyx5044 11-27-2012 05:02 AM

looks amazing.. can you PM me an estimate on the price?
