Robispec's Ride Black FRS Time Attack Mule

OUR DETAILED BUILD THREAD IS RIGHT HERE

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28180

For those who don't know who or what Robispec is, we are a chassis shop that takes pride in making cars handle better than stock, have consistant handling charactristics, and allow the cars driver to have more feedback before things get outta control.

This is what we have done so far.

Lowered the car 3" with a combination of tire size and custom suspension components that yield stock camber gain curves, lowered Center of gravity, corrected roll center, bump steer and stock travel on the suspension (though we do change the compression vs droop limits).

I was able to take the car to the local dealer and get side by side shots. We also had it out to the Redline time attack but showed up late and ran in the rain shower session...I did have a member here drive the car and get his impressions He can chime in if he wants to.

Looks a great, but a little too low for me. It also appears that it will fail to traverse any speed bumps!

mattles 11-23-2012 04:46 AM

been waiting for this post ever since I heard rumblings of you guys getting a car. Verrrrrry excited~

robispec 11-23-2012 04:53 AM

Thanks we also have a HUGE radiator in the stock location with a included oil cooler..and still have the AC condensor working (we live in the desert too). stock radiator is 5/8" core (yes you read that right)..the new one is 2.5" Nascar core...car weights now 2525. looks stock inside and out..

Going for 2450 with the next round of modifications.

Any info on the exhaust? Looks interesting

ultra 11-23-2012 09:28 AM

Robispec!!!

I met you here here while you were here in Dubai a few years back working on the Touring cars & stuff...one word...awesome!

Curious to know what bits you stuck on the car to oreserve the geometry at that height, which dampers you're running (assuming Robispec KW V3s), what you're doing for aligment....in short...everything you care to share!

Glad to see you on here & will be watching your development work. :)

we made a 3.1 KG aluminum cat back for our race car and it survived 30 minute sessions quite well... 70 degree farenheit ambiant temps.
Engine out, custom SS header,"V"banded to a transision pipe for NA or SC applications. (the header can be used for NA SC or Turbo apps) over pipe and catted section weighed in (with the alu rear) at 9.1 KG complete. engine back.. time will tell on the durability. We are a chassis shop so we made the lightest part possible. you can just see the 2.5" aluminum muffler and tailpipe just peeking out.

If we get enough interest the header and transision part are possible
We got 25 whp with this an Intake and ecutec tune NO CEL's

Glad you remembered me!
Front end uses
  • Robispec modified Ground control topmounts (gets us to 2" higher upper strut mounting points).
  • Robispec custom lower control arms with track, camber, castor, and roll center adjustment/correction (all on spherical bearings).
  • bumpsteerable outer tierod ends.
Rear end uses
  • Custom Robispec upper damper mounts adds 2" travel to the rear suspension.
KWs with inhancements ;-)

Basic "fast/safe" RWD alignment..straight where you can get away with it, toe in for stability if needed.

  • Brakeman BBK front
  • carbon fiber driveshaft
  • e-brake delete (prepping for a superlite rear BBK)
  • Enkei wheels and Toyo R1R tires
  • took out all trunk non-essentials (everything).
items left to find more weight reduction while appearing stock (but WAY too low lol)
  • battery
  • seats
  • airbag delete
  • rear trunk FRP replacement
  • front fender FRP replacement
  • Rear BBK (brakeman)

I'd say that's probably w/ an empty tank as well? That's an awful lot of weight for the mods listed.

Also, the mods you still have planned will be fairly significant (my LithiumPros batt alone will save ~25lbs).

Getting my car prepped for Nat level SCCA Solo work.

Thanks for the reply!

well the exhaust saved 55 lbs alone ;-)
BBK was 35lbs iirc
ebrake delete was 22 lbs
driveshaft was 13 lbs (00ps forgot to mention that).
wheels tires 16 lbs total
front a arms 14 lbs
tierod ends 2 lbs
KW's with topmounts 14 lbs iirc
spare tools, etc 35 lbs iirc

thats 206 lbs in a heartbeat...so i think the 2 hours on the dyno and 3 gallons fuel used was included...

Jesse@JDLAutodesign 11-23-2012 03:54 PM

Sick! Can't wait to see what you guys do with this car!

Lonewolf 11-23-2012 04:25 PM

Do you have any more pics of the hood?

I will when I get home a guy local to me cuts louvers for the jeep/off road crowd (go slow with fans blazing!) so I was looking at the options for getting better airflow through the nose and came up with a old school option I first saw this solution on the lancia stratos rally cars.
http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/f...a-Stratos1.jpg

Whooo that just dated me!

Bad news is the scion paint isn't very elastic and so the paint chipped/fractured...paint back to stock or color them robispec orange?

Sweet, I don't know how well the orange will go with the gold wheels though...are you going to have any more orange accents?

robispec 11-23-2012 08:16 PM

robispec "team colors" have been white (mostly) and orange or Black and blue and orange but the orange has always been there. I might have the wheels powdercoated orange...never know

;-)

robispec 01-20-2013 11:48 AM

Robispec's MULE will be at luguna seca on monday if any locals want to see the car in person.

I think the orange would look good but clash with all the red on the inside, since you are changing seats anyways you can probably get rid of most of it inside. Orange wheels and louvers or white wheels with orange louvers and mirrors.

robispec 01-22-2013 01:44 AM

Did you have the KW's Dyno tested?

+45 fronts are on spacers as we test different front track widths
(we can go up to 50mm wider on the front track

kws no dyno but knew they needed some "tweeking" so went with my gut feeling and they seam to work pretty well...

Simmons 01-23-2013 12:54 PM

That doesn't look 3" lower?

Here is a pic of my car with the 245/40/17 at 2 1/4" lower than stock.

Yeah the tires were 245/35/17 for a rolling diameter that is 1.25" shortet than stock (and showing a bigger fender gap too)

Well finallized weights
fronts are 22 lbs lighter than the stock fronts
Ebrake delete (EVERYTHING) yields 18 lbs less
rear Kit saves 20 lbs
Total weight reduction is SIXTY POUNDS OF UNSPRUNG WEIGHT!
50+ of it rotating mass too.
Testing for durability now.

What is this Nascar core you speak of? Where did you get it?

Captain Insano 02-04-2013 09:40 AM

Please start selling all this stuff... Along with DIY videos of the things like the ebrake tear out!! Lovin this stuff.

Captain Insano 02-04-2013 09:42 AM

Also, are you going to be releasing a hood with the louvers? I think you should, think it would be a good seller for track cars.
