Massachusetts Emissions
Do we in MA go by the same emissions standards as Cali?
I really want the Borla UEL header and in time replace the remaining OE exhaust system as funds become available. I'm a noob to cars and exhausts. Any help/info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :burnrubber: |
I think Mass' regulations are at the same level as Cali's along with a few more states, but I think Cali takes the rules way too serious, whereas Mass is a bit more lax.
Again, this is just a thought, but that's what it seems like to me. Hopefully somebody who knows a thing or two about emissions chimes in. |
Massachusetts does not do a sniffer test anymore, they just check your ECU to make sure you haven't bypassed any of your O2 Sensors and that nothing is in a "FORCED READY" state, as long as you still have your #1 Catalytic Converter you should be fine.

Same rules as CA, enforcement is a bit different. I've never had someone do an underhood inspection or check for CARB numbers in MA. Also, MA doesn't do any emissions testing on pre-OBDII cars anymore. If you bring in a 1995 or older vehicle, it just gets a safety inspection unless your exhaust is smoking.
For 1996 and newer they plug into the OBDII port. -Justin |
