NAIAS?
Anyone planning on going?
I'm planning on flying up from Florida with a buddy (and maybe my gf) to see the US Spec debut, near the end of the show. |
You know I'll be there. :)
|
I'll be there too, You can expect lots of pictures of both the Scion and Subaru from me.
|
I'll be there on the 19th and maybe the 20th.
I'll take some pics but probably not to many as I'm sure the forum will be flooded with them already :) |

We're heading up on the 17th and will be there all day Wednesday. I feel like a little kid on Christmas.

Damn you'll beat me by a day :)
I need to stop logging into this site soon.. I want to be surprised (hopefully pleasantly) at NAIAS :) |

Yesterday I attended Industry Day at NAIAS. Unless Scion and Subaru decided to change up their attitude, the FR-S and BRZ are strictly off-limits to mere mortals. The cars are up on turntables with plexi-walls and there was no way in hell to get access to the car up close without getting thrown out by guards.
I'm kinda pissed right now. I did take pictures, but you've already seen Hachi's shots and there's nothing new to show you. For what it's worth, the body lines look great and have good flow and sex factor. The wheel gap is hideous and the wheel offset results in "Mustang Tuck". Correct ride height and wheel offset is mandatory immediately off the showroom floor. Why can't so many OEM's get a reasonable stance correct? I can't even tell you how the car feels in terms of size because they were elevated and out of context. Also, the Ken Gushi drift car is nowhere to be seen. Gone. :( |
I kinda figured. Honestly I'm more excited to see the NSX, Dart, 130R, fusion, etc than the BRZ/FR-S now. Kinda sad when I think about it.

The NSX is beautiful, IMO the most gorgeous concept/new-car at the show. It's a real departure from Honda's recent design fiasco; they must've hired real designers to do the NSX, because the design is competent!
The Chevy "red concept" [whatever the name is] looks fantastic too. If they drop in an LNF and give it rear drive with a 6MT and LSD and don't ruin the handling and give it an interior worth sitting in, that would be a real revelation for GM's portfolio. Kinda like how the Solstice should've been from the beginning. The Dart looks fine and has lots of cast aluminum in the chassis and suspension, but like the 86, they were all locked. I did get a LOL out of the Nissan GT-R; it's interior was literally falling apart. The most amazing car of the show was ogling one S. Vettel's early 2010 Red Bull F1. Positive notes: Dominant Tron light theming throughout, Red Bull Formula1 from early 2010, Fiat 500 Abarth; Hot Wheels Camaro, Chevy "red concept", Acura NSX, everything Bentley, Audi RS5 engine bay's rebellion of plastic sheeting, MINI's booth, VW Beetle & VW's DJ spinning fun grooves, Porsche "991" 911 overall & Panamera's shockingly nice interior, Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ look great, Hyundai Veloster Turbo, 1953 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL, Ford Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca, Lincoln's display booth, Michelin man! Low notes: Lexus' new "pincer" nose design language & loss of amazing booth from last year to boring booth this year, Honda's re-used carpet from last year, BMW 328i Modern [with heavily ribbed "wood"], BMW 5-er interior "cancer" stench, Nissan GT-R interior falling apart, VW Golf R using lower grade interior trim vs. my 2010 GTI, FR-S and BRZ locked and off-limits, Chevy "white concept" aka The Suppository aka the mini CTS Coupe [a bad thing], Nissan Murano 2-door SUV convertible w/sunroof, Hyundai Genesis Coupe interior. |
