MXP Stainless Steel exhaust installed, music to my ears
1 Attachment(s)
I got the MXP in today from No Limit Motorsport, i already had a test pipe from Motiv and it bolted up very easily using the stock hardware and gaskets. Total install time on the lift was about 20 minutes and most of that was adjusting the tips, that was using hand tools also an air or electric ratchet would have made it even quicker.
I love the sound, it is very deep and has a bass-like quality that there is no way computer speakers can reproduce, i'm going to have my brother help me with videos tomorrow when i go over for Thanksgiving. It's not raspy at all and no drone that i have heard yet. Sounds great when you get up over 4000 rpms and i think even if i add a header it will still be reasonably quiet. I will be getting the Motiv overpipe as well next, i don't think it will change the sound much but should add a few hp. Speaking of hp you can feel a difference with this over the stock catback, i attribute it to actually getting the gains from my test pipe now since it may have been a little bottled up with the stock system. I will be sending some new logs to FA20Club to see if i need a new file now but i will be changing some stuff on my intake also so i might wait until those parts are here. Thanks again to Adam at No Limit Motorsport, he made sure i got the exhaust before the holiday and shipped it from NY monday and got it here today! |
Mine came today too. Ill be installing it tomorrow. Looks beautiful. Big thanks to Adam!

Joe did you have any alignment issues with the tips being uneven at all? Mine is giving me trouble with the right tip being lower than the left.
|
Check all your hangers and make sure none are bent, my car was way offset on one side of the alignment after i lowered it. Honestly i think some car's aren't "square" off the showroom. No problem on my tips though.

Looking forward to your vid clips joe!
|
Looks awesome Joe! Almost as nice as mine :p

Joe, I follow your build and posts. Can u share why you chose this one?

I heard enough in the sound clips i heard to make the decision and after reading the DSport article stating it had the highest quality construction i was sold. I'm a sucker for nice welds and they definitely did a good job, the thing is built to last. |
Awesome. Would like to see some close ups of the welding
|
It's right up there with the Motiv stuff as far as weld quality, very nicely done i'll get some more pics up i need to upload them and resize since that one i posted is a little big. I also like having stuff that a little different than everybody else and i hadn't seen many people with this one.
I don't like the look of the dual muffler kits like the EVO3 and Invidia N1, i like this design and you can definitely tell a difference with the good ol "butt" dyno. After my intake stuff gets here i'm going to send some new logs in but it's almost there power wise for me. With the intake and overpipe on and new tune i'm going to be good to go on engine mods for a while. |
Joe, I hope you don't mind me posting my photos in here. I thought it would be redundant to make a new thread.
Install was very easy. Took about an hour in the cold with jack stands only. I could have been quicker too with all the tools laid out ahead of time. http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/s...001/photo1.jpg Just after install before lowering back down. http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/s...001/photo2.jpg Joe is spot on about the welds. Very nice quality. My dad is a sheetmetal worker and had nothing but positive things to say about the system. http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/s...1/photo3-1.jpg I wanted an exhaust that split to a Y at the axle. Just seems like a better design. http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/s...1/photo4-1.jpg This was before adjusting the tips. The tips are a slip joint similar to the other piping. Very easy to get just right, and no worries about the tips sticking out too far past the bumper. http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/s...1/photo5-1.jpg The tips are beautiful and pretty big. I was never a huge fan of burnt tips but these are fantastic. They're very solid too...maybe even a little heavy for those who are looking for the ultimate lightweight system. The sounds is perfect. It's not loud nor too quiet. The sound is deep and mellow. There is no drone even when off the gas at higher rpm. I'm excited to hear it with a header/overpipe/frontpipe in the future. For now, it sounds amazing, and I highly recommend it. I'll try to get a video together if I can. If anyone wants more photos, I'd be more than happy to take some. |

Looks great guys! We love ours too
Here are two videos from MXP with their catless front pipe. IMO the exhaust sounds a bit deeper in person than the videos but it is tough to capture exhaust sound. http://www.flickr.com/photos/isteve7...eam?likes_hd=1 http://www.flickr.com/photos/isteve7...in/photostream |
Here's the link to DSport's video without front pipe.

I just got mine from Adam last week as well and I love it. I have the same impressions you guys do. Great sound but not to loud. Still have a tip alignment problem to fix but hopefully that will get fixed tomorrow if I can get it back on a lift.
|
Nice! @JoeBoxer, I see you have the SPC rear lower arms, how do you like them?
|
SPC arms are a great low cost alternative to the whiteline camber bushings, they cost more but install is super easy and adjustment is one of the better designs also. Turn in concepts uses them on their car which sees track duty so they must be ok.
Still loving the exhaust been busy I'm going to get some in car stuff on the way home shortly. |

Some in car videos with Motiv Concepts test pipe, MXP exhaust, FA20 Club reflash, noise generator delete and drop in Cosworth air filter. Taken with iphone so pardon the quality, they really don't show the deep tone of the exhaust.
http://youtu.be/chHb7F6GAec http://youtu.be/H3zkkabixrU http://youtu.be/zWw0-2G4mHA Finally an outside clip of it revving, i had to get my neighbor to hold my phone while i was helping him install an alternator. sorry for the laugh that sounds like Butthead at the end, that's the neighbor not me lol. http://youtu.be/Jsi535IoF1E |
Sounds awesome!
|
It does sound like Butthead! uhh huhuhhuh huhuhuhuh
|
Why does it look like you have boost in those videos?

Idk , it looks like the RPM fly to redline around 5krpm

FA20Club reflash ;)
|
Wow, I have the Visconti. I'm not sure if I noticed that on my tune. I've been very forgetful lately :)

yea sounds nice, I thought that with the test pipe it would sound like some other ones do (fart can type) but this ones sounds beast
|
I like this. I'm especially sold since it made your friend laugh like Butthead.
The one thing I'm on the edge about is the weight. Just in case I stay NA for awhile , if I'm FI the fuck the extra weight, just not sure if/when I'm going FI. Gonna look up price. |
Thats what sold me, the MXP videos i saw had their test pipe on it so i knew it would be ok, i have the Motiv overpipe coming friday too not sure if that will effect the sound or not but we'll see.
PM Adam at No Limit Motorsport i had mine in 2 days from when he got them in and you are even closer, they are sold out right now but 5 more are coming in. |
So who has the best deal on these !?! Lol
I'm going to need a front pipe with a cat when I switch to catless header |
Yeah you should stick with a catted front pipe if you are getting a catless header. I like Motiv they have taken really good care of me and the prices are very fair for the quality you get. Nameless is a little more expensive and they are pretty much gone from the forum so for me it would be Motiv or Perrin.
check my signature these guys are my go to vendors and i haven't had a problem yet. |
I agree with your thoughts on nameless. Love Perrin's Transparency with their products and quality. Motiv has a catted front pipe IIRC
Edit: Stock exhaust hangers? Quote:
|
Yep all stock, very easy to install too and everything is adjustable so you can put the tips whereever you want them. Yes Motiv offers the Test Pipe and what they call the HFC for the front pipe with cat.
|
Nice. So I have it narrowed down to this or the over-pipe back system from Super Sprint. Their system would cost me after shipping about $1821 and then I'd need to buy the front pipe with Cat. Hmmm

|
Damn that's expensive, i'm sure it's nice but you are more than halfway to a turbo or supercharger kit at that price.
|
Yes sir. Right now my mind is made on mxp. Please tell me these are completely made in the USA? That's a big reason I prefer mxp to the Super Sprint

Btw, can a resonator be removed from an exhaust. My concern is exhaust being too silent if I go turbo
|
Resonator can't be removed it's part of the midpipe, i think its made in Japan but not 100% sure.
