Take your Scion...to a Subaru Dealer?

Has anyone actually thought about taking their FRS to Subaru for maintenance?

Most Toyota/Scion dealers have never seen a boxer engine before, let alone worked on one.

The car is mostly Subaru, who are most likely more experienced with the boxer engine.

talked to a tech. he says the subaru techs are legally (for whatever reason, cant confirm how true this is) not allowed to touch the tranny for either the brz or frs. but other than that, either one can do whatever maintenance so long as you provide proof of some sort of warranty and whatnot.

i might have to go to my local subaru dealer and ask if i could bring it there for service..

One reason I would be interested in taking my BRZ into the local Scion dealer is that they are supposedly very mod friendly, I've even heard " aftermarket turbo- friendly". I'll have to confirm if they can perform warranty service on BRZs...

My Scion tech said the transmission is quite difficult to access

the scion dealer here charged Toyota 6 hours and about 8 grand to replace transmission clutch and flywheel. They pulled it themselves but had to wait for a Toyota rep to look at it before replacing them.

it must be! after all, scion, and toyota do NOT have a boxer engine! it would make sense to take a scion to a subaru dealership, just make sure they will cover any warranty work.

This is what I was wondering, but for Australia. the toyota dealership near me doesnt have any spares, no oil, no filters, and have no clue about the car. The subaru dealership next to be is awesome and have always taken care of me when i go there.

There is a huge difference between maintenance work and warranty work. You can have your car maintained by anyone, even yourself, but you will be paying for it out of pocket. Just make sure to keep all documentation of said work, for warranty purposes.

As for warranty work, since that effects the manufacturers bottom line, i am willing to bet that it needs to be done by whom it was purchased from.

I plan to do my own maintenance, to a point, but will be taking it periodically to a Subaru dealer for inspections.
