Smooth shift Sunday.
Today was driveline day for the 86, with 3500 kays on the clock (and @JP who's waiting on his 86 with a great garage) it was time to change the gearbox and diff oil, and fit the Perrin rear shifter bushing and Cusco gearbox stiffener.
Gearbox and Diff I used Motul Gear 300 (4 litres purchased which gives me just over .5Litre left with both filled). The results: Firstly at 3500K I didn't expect anything like the amount of gunge that was in the diff and box. Both were quite nasty and there were certainly lots of metallics on the magnetic plugs. Shift quality and speed has improved out of sight - noticably smoother, almost non-existant 2nd gear and reverse notchiness when cold - the Perrin and Cusco pieces also significantly reduce the movement of the box contributing to a more positive shift action. Rear diff noise certainly seems reduced over the stock fluid. From a bang for bucks point of view, this will be the best 150-200 bucks and 2.5 Hours you'll spend on your driveline. I had read the DIYs from the FT86Club DIY section, but didn't need to refer to them during the process - although they were very good and their tips were invaluable. - definitely worth finding and using. Thanks again JP for the help and the use of your garage!. |
