Perfect Saturday morning drive
Went out early this morning for what was supposed to be a quick run to fill up on gas and get some air for the tires. While pumping gas, I looked over at my FR-S and I kid you not, it was like looking at a dog wagging its tail waiting to go for its walk. It was just sitting there begging for some fun (you 86 owners know what I'm talking about). So I did what any good owner would do and took that detour leading to some fun/twisty backroads.
Man what a blast! It's been a while since I hit those roads, but this car is just so willing to DANCE. You can feel when the rear end is about to step out under power, but it's never vicious, just playful. The car is so balanced and responsive, like no car I've ever driven (and I've spent a fair amount of seat time in Miatas, STIs, Caymans, 370zs, etc.) The was an empty roundabout where I held a little slip angle around the entire circle, grinning like an idiot the whole time. Everything from the seating position to the shifter to the throttle response was just perfect. It's just so easy/intuitive to drive this car and get it to dance on its toes. An hour later, I came home laughing like a little kid, to the point where people were asking me what was so funny when I got inside. Anyone else have those perfect driving moments? (BTW, one thing I tried changing and really enjoyed was reclining my seatback a notch or two and moving the seat bottom forward a bit from what I'm used to. In the FR-S, this seating position works well, at least for me. If you're having trouble getting comfortable in your seat, try that. Next year I'm planning to buy a set of sticky summer tires for the autocross season, but I'm really hoping they won't ruin this car's awesome balance.) |
And the weather this morning here in VA was amazing to boot. Sunny, little bit chilly, no wind. Gorgeous day indeed.

Then she grins like a little kid when I take her out in the FRS. We've both lived very sheltered lives and this car has made both of us enjoy living it up and driving much more. Sadly there are no large roundabouts around here, only small ones. Maybe I can find an empty lot and drive around a lightpost grinning like an idiot in first gear. LOL  My only perfect moments are cruising down Pacific Coast Highway during the sunsets. The ocean and setting sun on one side, and onlookers on the other side. |

By the way, driving up PCH from LA to SF is on my bucket list. My fiancee is from LA, and she talks about how scenic the drive is. Within the next 5 years, I will check that one off my list. |
Reading a story like this is like 50 Shades of Grey, but for cars.

I feel ya, sometimes I take the "long" way home just to have a nice longer drive ;)
|
My long way home includes mullholland, Topanga canyon and parts of PCH.

I pretty much had the same experience on Friday, dropped my sister off at school then went for a drive (complete with the roundabout).
Now that I'm used to the car more, I see how progressive the slip characteristics are. The rear end wont bite you like an S2000. you always know when its about to step out |
