Possibly another reason Vettel was able to plant his foot down early, illegal traction control? Here's a vid of Webber's car.

Also, the cars technically are faster, as their trap speeds are significantly higher. They have slightly slower lap times due to the decreased grip from downforce, which requires a lot more finesse from the drivers. One of the reasons Vettel steamed away with that kind of dominance was he could just plant his foot down super early and trust that his EBD or coanda EBD would give him the grip he needed to pull out of a corner (also they made significantly less torque in the low revs of the V8s).

FIA never did anything about it, they love touting their power and they're still in Ferrari's pocket, that's proof enough to me that there wasn't anything going on.

Most 'experts' agreed it was wheel hop.

I remember someone mentioning it wasn't technically traction control, but higher KERS loads when needed to effectively act as TC.

That's what I remember. And I remember it was a HUGE thing after Singapore last year, because on the bumpy and uneven ground, he was able to get on the power 30 meters earlier than literally everybody else. And it made the same rev-limiter juttering sound that old TC systems used to make.

FIA is very broad with their definition of traction control, even if the mechanics were as you describe it would be illegal.

Quote:

9.3 Traction control :
No car may be equipped with a system or device which is capable of preventing the driven wheels from spinning under power or of compensating for excessive torque demand by the driver.
Any device or system which notifies the driver of the onset of wheel spin is not permitted.

Aside from the unbelievably bad acting, that was a pretty good intro video for the track. Looks like it'll be fun with decent overtaking in the corners.

Looks pretty much unchanged from when it was the A1 ring. I thought I remembered images of the front straight/T1 completely torn up.

Well, that's an interesting looking starting grid.

What a fantastic quali! Can't wait to see the race tomorrow!

Really good race from Botas. The HAM needs better pit stops. Losing precious time in the pits where Nico is killing it. Good race overall I think. Not compared to Canada, but still good.

nick_318is 06-22-2014 09:50 PM

Too bad Massa didn't finish on the podium I had high hopes to see him there again. Good race for Williams none the less with Botas getting the 3rd.

Not sure if any of you were aware. This weekend was the 24 Hours Nürburgring endurance event. GT86's were present in the SP 3 and V3 classes.
