A little bit. Then again, I'm not a fan of Alonso.

I was concerned about the communications & pit stops between Hamilton & Rosberg.

Nobody puts Kimi in a corner.

Edit: except for Maldonado, he'll put anyone in a corner, or a wall, or sand trap, or into another car... Maldonado don't care.

I can't wait for the new exhaust.. One thing I missed about the MotoGP bikes.. I loved hearing those megaphones sitting on the hill at Laguna.. And that M1 just sounds amazing.. Noise is a big part, watching "better" racing in the other series just don't hold my attention the same.. Regardless I'll continue to watch no matter how they sound

I read somewhere that one of the teams at least is possibly fitting a megaphone on the exhaust for better sound.

What they will look like:

Holy fuck I thought that was a joke until I clicked a link, that better be there to shut people up and I hope it never shows up to a race.

Or F1 is just trying to make Honda fanboi's feel at home for next year.

Edit: Thank god:

Rosberg himself completed 102 laps, and started the day by testing a 'megaphone' exhaust fitted to his car as part of a test designed to improve the sound of the new engines. However, after some early runs with little audible difference, the exhaust was removed for the team's original specification.

I am absolutely convinced that the Mercedes team put that on their car, looking like that, as a deliberate aesthetic slap in the face to the people who want more sound.

"They want more sound?! Great, how can we make fun of them at the same time.. Oh I know how!"

torqdork 05-15-2014 07:59 PM

Newey/Horner could turn it into a blown wing creating illegal downforce.

As long as they are only revving the engines to 10K rpm, they are going to sound like shit.

Indy cars actually sound a lot better, which is sad.

That's one of the big secrets of Mercedes' extra power. Since they make their power more efficiently with less loss to heat, they can run higher revs using less fuel than everyone else. And since MB Patronas have known about that since last year, they've been designing entirely around that.

Since I only watch on TV anyway, the sound is pretty much a non-issue to me. But it's also greatly swaying me to not want USGP tickets...

That's exactly the issue, F1 relies on people getting out and going to the races. There's lots of money to be made in F1 with broadcasting rights for the sport and the broadcasters, no one is worried about that. There is a lot less money to be made from actually hosting the GP. If ticket sales suffer, we might see the less profitable GPs disappear. Montreal for example, already relies on large government investments just to keep the GP alive.
