Short-shifter feel

Hey guys, I know it's pretty early to be looking for a part like this but are there any decent aftermarket shifters available?

I am not necessarily looking for a shorter throw but I want something much more solid and precise .. comparable to what you get in a newer Hurst billet pro shifter. Tight, solid .. almost heavy feeling. I really like that.

Solid and precise? Swap in Perrin's rear shift bushing?

gmookher 11-14-2012 07:45 PM

I'd like unbiased feedback from BPS customers..

If not BPS i know TWM has one in the pipeline. they make great stuff so i would look there as well. the rear shifter bushing does a lot for the feel though.

I like it. I just wanted a shorter throw since I was used to it with my CL. I've got about 1500 miles on the shifter so far. Its a shorter throw, but I wouldnt really say its more precise. That doesnt mean its less precise, just that there didnt seem like there was much slop in the OEM shifter to begin with.

The Perrin rear bushing made a big difference as well, and its less then $40 IIRC so Id recommend spending your money on that first.

www.kartboy.com is close to release, VERY close.

eyes are peeled.

I had a TWM shifter in my Mazda 3 with solid base bushings and the feel was a massive improvement over stock. With a 3" extension and a medium/light knob it was perfect.

My Soarer has an R-154 and a C's Short-shift kit, which is rare as unicorn s--t and probably the best feeling shifter I have ever used.

The FR-S stock is OK, but still a little lightweight. The shifts are direct feeling enough but there just needs to be some more .. how do I say .. "heft" to it.

I suppose the stock shifter also has a plastic reverse lockout ? In which case, I don't see why it would be a reliability issue.

Yeah this is true, but why pay double the money for the same thing with an STi sticker ? :D

BPS Short Shifter has...

. 25% throw reduction and 3/8" height reduction
. one piece short shifter shaft and a CNC machined one piece aluminum reverse lockout handle
. delrin bushings and a heavy duty spring for an extremely smooth, free of play, reverse lockout mechanism
. short shifter shaft is black coated with a strong and resistant black zinc finish. The reverse lockout will be available either in raw aluminum finish (Silver) a satin finish (Matte Silver) , or in an anodized black finish for an OEM like look

They are also currently working on a limited production run of both anodized Red and Blue reverse lockout

The only specs I could see for the STi was "SHORT STROKE (-4mm)."

And a price of $449.85US :eyebulge:

i want 0 play, shorter throw, and a 5 inch increase in height. A shifter like this would defenetley be worth 500 bones.
