BRZ Question

Just got my car out of the bodyshop after 42 days and am trying to check that everything works correctly. We drove it so little at night my wife and I can't remember if the Km/h MPH, ODO TRIP and the DISP buttons next to the instrument cluster light up when the lights are on as well as the trunk opener button or stay dark when the lights are on. So before I look like a fool and bring it up to the body shop I thought I would ask some of you to check yours and let me know, there is no others at the dealer or around here to look at. Thanks in advance.

Those three buttons are not illuminated. I don't know about the trunk opener off the top of my head.

Trunk opener doesn't light either. PITA too at night when searching around to pop the trunk.

I wish the Odo, Disp and km/mph buttons were illuminated !

But, you kinda get used to where there are after awhile.

This is true, and with my seating position, and having to reach around the steering wheel a little awkwardly to push them, it's not like I could really see them anyway I bet. haha

yeah I wish they lit up (even some glow in the dark lettering would be cool) but you get used to it

I have always wondered why they didn't make these buttons light up...Especially the trunk button. Oh well...

Maybe for safety reasons. IOW: should not be used when driving. (because of location)

For some reason I doubt it... It's right next to the headlight leveler and the cluster dimmer; which are lit up...

Burrcold 11-14-2012 11:57 AM

I think it would is probably safer to have them illuminated, so that people aren't fumbling around trying to see outside temp, mpg, etc. while driving (not that they should be anyway). Obviously the trunk button should be illuminated just from a convienence standpoint (same as the power mirrow adjusts). But hey that's where the cost cutting comes in to play! Every little penny worth of parts, costs tons in developement.

The headlight adjust and cluster dimmer are meant for "on the fly" adjustments as conditions change, hence the illumination. The trunk lid not so much, as well as changing or resetting kph/mph readout, odo and temp/mpg-l/100k selection. I usually just use either the keyless remote or the trunk button on my limited but maybe it's not there on the premium trim level. I've only driven my <2000 miles so far and can already get to all the switches "blind" anyway...

In a perfect world the trunk button would light up when the e-brake is applied/the vehicle is in park. I too have fumbled around in the dark looking for the trunk release. As for the other buttons, I don't use them enough for it to bother me.
