At home detailing.

If I am about to detail the car at home, what do I need?
Shammy, microfiber, wax, soap. And what can I do to remove the minor swirl marks on the car? Do I use a brush for the wheels or a certain type of tool?

Any noob guide out there?

i hope you dont have any swirl mark on it yet.
but yes, get a good shammy
get some quick wax or sprax wax - alot of good ones.. i like the synthetic spray wax...

tires,i would just a cloth something soft for tires/rims -- or tire brush.

i usually wash it then wait till it dries and spray on some wax with the micro-fiber cloths... thank god for costco ! they are cheap there and big packages.

i have raven and i dont have the swirl marks... ? just wash it with something soft and some good soap with alot of suds.

good luck.

Don't forget to use the double bucket method--clean water in one bucket, dirty in the other.

Detailing is broad term. Detailing can just mean a wash, clay bar, polish and wax, or it can mean a whole lot more.

Washing and waxing is barely detailing and more like regular exterior maintenance.

I used this website to buy all my supplies and they have really great blogs too.
http://www.detailedimage.com/Auto-Detailing-Guide/

My usual procedure:
-washing in the shade
-three buckets: one for wheels, one for mitt rinse, one for mitt soap
-2-4 Grit Guards
-two-three mitts: separate one for wheels, lower body, upper body
-two larger microfiber towels for drying, spirited with quick detailer.

If you're using a chamois and your car was previously waxed, spray some quick detailer on the chamois to lubricate during drying so it doesn't mar it. But I would prefer a waffle-weave mf towel over a chamois without qd

If not, wax first then coat it with a quick detailer.

If you want to be really OCD like me when it comes to cleaning, I use an electric blower to dry the car. Less stuff touching the paint the less chance of swirls happening.

But I use a soft sheepskin/wool (don't remember exactly) mitt for the top half and a microfiber mitt for the bottom in the 2 bucket method. Only a few light clear coat scratches and no swirls for the 6 months I've had it! You'll never find them unless you're in the right light and literally inches from the paint. Otherwise, it's perfect! :)

All my products I've ordered from Detailed Image!

I use the same method. A towel doesn't touch my car to dry it. Pull out the leaf blower and go to town

I noticed your in poughkeepsie...where about? I work in wappingers falls, and I have yet to see a BRZ in the area. I'm SWP as well.

I live near Pleasant Valley. I've seen a GBS BRZ on route 9 once. Where abouts are you located? We should meet up!

Well that link just educated the crap out of me for the past hour! Thanks for sharing it!

Great resource for the beginner!
