Hurricane Sandy-Some Faith in humanity restored

I want to hear your stories, or anything that you have heard from friends/families that were affected.

I keep hearing all of these stories where simple acts of kindness goes such a long way.
My friend has no power because they are waiting on an inspector, but his neighbors do, so what did they do? They threw over extension cables so his family could have heat and electric-They didn't have to do that, after all they are the ones who will be paying the bill not my friend.(His job at Microsoft gave him over a grand to help with damages and gave him a rental car)

Another story was about a guy who had a generator, but instead of using it he gave it to his elderly neighbor so he could still have heat and use his bigger ventilator. Now that guy was stuck in the cold-Hopefully he got his power back by now....

I Live in oceanside and things were pretty bad, but slowly things have been pulling together. Even those who still have no heat-and lost a lot(whether it be their 1st floor, basement, whole house, cars) They come to my highschool in tears and Donate for others! Its insane how much positive energy everyone has.
I made a post on reddit, just to vent a little with the link to the video my teacher made and it got us HELP! people from the otherside of the island who go down to new Orleans to help are based here in NY, and are coming to my highschool to help us feed people. They are bringing food to feed up to 100people and a extra generator and a chainsaw(lol yeah that made me worry for a sec, but than I was like "Ooo Right..fallen trees" I clearly watch too much horror)
We will be making warm meals and delivering it to those who are unable to leave their homes. We also have a whole gym filled with clothes that I spent 5 hours yesterday with my friend just organizing b.c today we are packing it up and sending to other towns that need it.
They are going to try to resume school on Tuesday, they are in need of supplies because kids lockers/as well as classrooms got flooded. They are also combining some schools together because a few still don't have heat.

There's a lot more to the issue, I wrote about it here.

Faith in humanity? Hmm....

My neighbor's generator was stolen overnight, right out of his backyard.

Two guys got into a fight while waiting on line at a gas station. One of the guys was stabbed.

I know two people who had the gas siphoned right out of their cars.

Yeah, Sandy brought out the "best" in us as a community. FWIW, I live in one of the nicest & safest areas of the NY metro area.

You can't let the bad things out voice the good. No matter the situation bad news always makes a louder ruckus then good. The op made this post for the good things that have happened. Please go elsewhere with your negativity.

I too felt the same way you do. Hell a part of me still does. But Is the feeling as negative as it was before-no.

In every bad there's good, you just have to look harder for it sometimes.

Not everyone is kind, that's why it feels amazing whenever I come across someone of that nature, let alone a whole community. If you spend your days hating humanity you'll always be mad, keep your eyes open and remember to always pay it forward.
