Dash Cam

Looking into getting one, but any recommendations? Or what models do you current owners have?

i posted this somewhere else but http://massdrop.com/Blackvue-dr400g-hdii
great price on it with this discount highly recommended. its normally like 250-260.

KingGeo 11-12-2012 01:03 PM

that seems like a pretty good deal!
but not enough info about shipping outside of the US for me to really take a risk...

Books 11-12-2012 10:16 PM

I'm using this: [ame="http://www.amazon.com/2-5-inch-Vehicle-Recorder-Dashboard-Camcorder/dp/B0053DDNW6"]Amazon.com: 2.5-inch HD Car LED IR Vehicle DVR Road Dash Video Camera Recorder Traffic Dashboard Camcorder - LCD 270 degrees whirl: Car Electronics[/ame]

It's cheap, ugly, sticks out, stupid menu, ok quality video... but it does the job and it works for me, ymmv. I also plan on upgrading to the Blackvue DRG400 when I am done with spending my money on other mods (probably will never happen). For a little over $20 and an SD card that was lying around the house, it was worth the 'risk'. You won't be making any HD movies with this dashcam but you can discern between different vehicles and see license plates in front of you. See if that works for you.

so this deal is ending soon.
in case any other Canadians are wondering, i asked about shipping: $6
and customs: only HST
so that makes it a pretty damn good deal considering Amazon best price is like $269 that i can find

KingGeo 11-14-2012 11:41 AM

yeah me too!
with an hour left i give in! lol
so maybe a bit of an impulse buy, but even if i dont end up liking it there are so few in Canada im sure i can sell it and recover a good chuck of my cost

I'm thinking of getting this one. Comparable to the Blackvue one, but much cheaper.

I put this up in the other thread

http://dashcamtalk.com/dash-cam-comparison/

the blackvue has reports of overheating and video quality dropping with age

I got the DVR 60 its cheap but has a shitty mount and is pretty large but its the highest rated dash cam

If you were thinking of the blackvue I would look at the other mentioned

ITRONICS ITB-100HD 8GB FULL HD GPS

around 200 on ebay

BRZTX 11-15-2012 12:18 AM

I bought the blackvue HD400 and it lasted 30 days. It would overheat and the picture quality faded to blur. Recently got the ITRONICS ITB-100HD. The picture quality is awesome and does not get hot. The Itronics is reliable while the blackvue is not.

My blackvue broke so I'm trying this one now. Since I bought the korean version I cannot have it repaired or replaced under warranty. Overheated.

akuhei 11-15-2012 12:41 AM

Two things:

1) The group buy is over, so this thread really isnt needed anymore.

2) I've heard from some people who owned their blackvue made for the states, who used it during the summer months in Florida and had no problems with it overheating or blacking out or breaking or losing video quality. Maybe its a gamble, but at the price, it was one I was willing to take. I tend to feel that they wouldnt be in business anymore if the issues were so serious that every single camera that they sold broke within 6 months. Same applies to our car itself, which has problems (such as the High Pressure Fuel Pump chrip, the condensation in the tail lights, and the dreaded Idle Dip issue). If bought through proper channels (not purchasing the korean version that offers no warranty because it wasnt made for the states/anywhere outside of Korea), they should cover it with a warranty. In the end, I'm just not worried about it.

1. - A - section 1

That seems to have been the original post, so why is this not needed any longer?

1 - A - section B

On your second, and even more meaningless item, the Korean version is identical to the version sold in the US. There is no special "heat resistant" US market device, or did you mean to imply the item failed because it missed Korea and wasn't happy with living in the US? Thanks for the anecdote nonetheless and say hello to everyone in Nobody Asked You Land.
