What Aftermarket parts would you like to see for the FT86/FRS
Now we all know, there are going to be turbo kits, there will be coilover kits, there will be big brake kits, because What car doesnt come out with those following shortly after.
But What "unique" parts would you like to see become available for the FT86? Reason I ask? Well I am just on the verge of graduating from an Automotive Parts design program, And I would love to bring my knowledge to the ft86 world. Now I am not talking about parts that require giant facilities with huge R&D departments to have successful parts. But lets see what you guys are after, and maybe I can start working on some concepts ;) |
Exterior parts, and interior parts may be best....
as engine stuff may require alot of $$$$ in development and testing, and IF you fail at that, you'll be scrutinized in the community. Another option you can go for is Wheel Forging, but i'm not sure your automotive parts design program is for that..We could really use a cheap durable aftermarket wheel to compete with the Enkei Rpf1, as that is really the Lightest/cheapest/reliable there is on the market for club racers. Perhaps its best to just have one focus of parts rather than a LOT load of stuff like what Sparco is doing. I personally would like to see alot of stuff you'll be able to do, but not sure what you're capable of. |
I'm sure TRD USA and SPT will have all the bases covered for this car not to mention other accessible tuners in the U.S. like FiveAxis.
What I'd like to put on my FR-S/BRZ (a car I HOPE I can fit into): -19" Five spoke (single or split) wheels of some kind (i.e. FiveAxis AD S5:F) - integrated trunk spoiler - exhaust system - coilovers - upgraded interior trim (i.e. carbon fiber, aluminum) - front spliter upgrade |
Thanks for the interest, I do agree, that alot of engine stuff is beyond my limits as I dont have the funding for proper r&d rather then just popping parts out without the testing.
I have designed some wheels in the past but I havent ever looked into the manufacturing side of it. I dont plan on doing a huge array of parts because its hard to maintain quality. At this point I am just trying to gauge interest as to maybe where I should start doing some research. I am currently trying to have my old laptop restored (It was destroyed) that had alot of my 3d modeling work on it. But if I get some ideas I can make up some rough ideas although obviously dimensioning will not be accurate. |

CAD or solidworks?

Perhaps Gauges like Oil temperature gauge, volt meter, Oil pressure, Fuel/air is a good idea.
I know these are all available, however; they are all really cheap and looks terribly built, or Very expensive. I could definitely use something on the cheap $$ side and descent quality. Another thing could just be a roll bar/cage fabrication shop that meets SCCA and other club organization Specs. |

I am also pretty fluent in Mastercam X4 for CNC work. |

This is where I was thinking there would be alot of interest as this is a Drivers car, it is also something I would be very capable of. |

BUT before making those parts 1. You need this car (FR-S or BRZ) 2. or you know someone that have this car so you can make the parts correctly |

19'' wheel = goodbye fun nimble car, too much unsprung weight for a car like this IMO. plus you would have to use rubberband tires.
And yes Obviously I cant make these parts until the car is parked in my garage, but I plan on picking one of these guys up right away, and then right to work on some development. If all is well I would hope to have a few designs ready for production within a few months of the car being out. |
