When will the owners of MY '13, '14 and '15 get a similar letter about the shite Subaru head unit that is found in our cars? I can't believe they went to the trouble of installing a circa 1972 unit...

RZNT4R 04-22-2019 02:02 PM

Forget it, manufacturers don't give a fuuuuuk about the radio once the car leaves the factory, the 17+ cars are getting fixes because the radio handles the backup camera and that's considered safety equipment.

Scourge 08-26-2019 04:39 PM

Just wanted to mention I completely forgot about this thread because I haven't gotten any codes since I had this fix done. :D

There’s a new TSB for ‘17-20 BRZ, automatic transmission only. It’s an ECM update to prevent a false P0300 code setting and turning the check engine light on. TSB 11-193-19. It involves an ECM software update.

Subaru TSB 05-61-16 Suspension mounts

1 Attachment(s)
Manufacturer: Subaru of America, Inc.
Components: suspension mounts
Number: 05-61-16

I didn't see this TSB in here. I am having this problem of popping noise from the strut mount and searched the forum but did not see anything from subaru about it. There are several threads on suspension noise that point to the top mounts but no mention of a TSB.

I was very close to buying the parts and doing it myself based on the how-to's I've seen here for suspension and then stumbled upon the TSB.

Maybe I'm the only one over 60k still running the stock suspension....

I can't seem to find the proper link for the valve spring recall. Is that only limited to the 2013 engines or does it also include the 2014 to 2016 engines?

Opie 04-09-2020 10:22 AM

2013 only.

@ichitaka05

If you are at 60k you are out of warranty for the strut mounts, they are only covered under the 3/36. TSB's do not extend warranty coverage.

Not even all of the 13s. You need to check the VIN.

Thanks Tcoat. I was looking into probable issues with 2014-2016 motors as I am looking for a used one. And those that I am finding are from wreckers who more often than not has the motor already out of the car so I am unable to verify the VIN.

There are very few issues reported with the post 13 engines.

Can someone tell me if this valve spring recall mandatory
I assume its the reason the dmv is not letting me re-register my car.
Ive gotten 2 registration tickets already.

so monday 2020/07/20 I dropped it off at normreevestoyotasandiego.com and was running PERFECTLY.

(As a side note I put my clutch and flywheel in this after replacing the melted throw-out bearing in about 3 hrs on jack-stands. Worked on RX7's dirt bikes etc since i was young. I know what time it is)Also replaced two plugs so far. so as soon as i mentioned that the service goons at Toyota try to pump up their chest and condescendingly state "that thing uses very specific plugs are you sure you installed the uranium ones?" Hand to god that is his exact quote I almost ran my head through the window. Then I answered, if you mean IRIDIUM plugs, yeah, they were I dont think anyone even makes an 86 plug that is not iridium. After he badgers me about tires and plugs I said yeah how much for plugs, and after a LONG back and forth with his guy on the phone, he comes back with $160.00 !!!!! I said !@#$ no, you can keep my old ones in there. Now my reciept mentions "Customer declines service recommendations" but it doesnt state the $160.00 quote on there as proof that they tried to pull one over on the customer. What a scam, how can these goons get away w this? Better yet, Who can I file a complaint with.

It is but only in California.

Tcoat 07-24-2020 11:20 PM

The cost to change the plugs in these is around $400 normally so $160 is a deal.

Oh and you sound like an arrogant **** so have fun with your complaints.

DJ_JAZZY_DJENT 07-25-2020 03:38 AM

160 for plugs and labor WOULD BE a great deal; except, the service tech made it very clear that because they already have to pull the motor, they "WILL NOT CHARGE ME FOR LABOR." so then I was waiting for a price of roughly 20-30$ each, which was obv fantasy. As for your slight towards my personality, whatever you say. Enjoy your trolling.

DJ_JAZZY_DJENT 07-25-2020 03:40 AM

Well, DJ_JAZZY_DJENT, it sounds like you are in between a rock (DMV) and a hard spot (dealer to do the work).

Yep, $160 does sound like a lot for the plugs, but I have found that sometimes it's just easier to "pay up" than fight it.

You may try to "bring your own plugs" to the party, that may save you a few dollars.

In light of the entire recall process, that $40 - $80 price difference for the plugs may be minor. You may want to save your ammo for a bigger battle.

So. They are not charging you labour to pull the engine but just for the parts and about half an hour of shop rate to change the plugs. You expect them to change the plugs just for the parts price? You understand it is still extra work right? Do you volunteer your time for free at work? It is how they earn their living and they are not demons because they want to make at least a little money.

@ichitaka05

Today, brought my 2020 BRZ w/2,000 miles to service for an interior issue and have been hearing this noise when i park. They inspected it and said my car would be covered under some TSB around the strut noise (assuming it's this one). Seems like my car shouldn't be part of this TSB...but thanks for sharing it.

Ragin Gti 12-03-2020 07:57 AM

You are correct, that TSB applies to ‘13-‘16 BRZ.

My 2013 FRS had a total engine replacement, I have just over 4000 miles on it. The Chirping is just horrendous. I actually got a noise complaint about it as I was sitting parked in a parking lot at night. So...now I need to really try to get this looked at.

I've been researching this for a year now and I've tried every fuel type imaginable with no positive results. Nonethanl 0%, every possible gas station in the area. Chrips non stop and sounds like a UFO rolling down the road, its a legit embarassment as its loud enough to be heard with the windows up and some music on.

However, I love my FRS and dont want to sell it. I do want the chirp gone. So what does Toyota and Surbaru say about this that can be done to fix it? I worry about having the fuel pump changed and risking them damaging or causing more problems for my car. I've not had a single problem with my car, its in immaculate condition.

but, I was referred to this thread to try to see if some type fo newer part replacement exists now in 2021, or if anyone has any actual fixes for it.

After this noise complaint, I can no longer sit parked where I usually do at night. :\
