The following alludes to a 11-184-18 and a new version of the ECM software

It's not out yet on Mitchell or Identifix and I need that sooo hard.

WTZ85 - Subaru of America, Inc. (Subaru) is recalling 2018 model year Legacy, Outback, and BRZ vehicles equipped with a certain combination of head unit hardware and software, due to the possibility of noncompliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard
Type: Recall | Service Campaign: WTZ85 | NHTSA Campaign: 18V-000000
Open
Recall Date: January 02, 2019
Description
18 LEG/OUT/BRZ V3 Head Unit Reprogram

Safety Risk
Due to a software issue, the head unit memory retrieval and assembly time may exceed the designed time to begin the boot-up cycle. If this occurs, the head unit display will not boot, causing the screen to remain blank. In this condition, while backing the vehicle, the rearview image may not be displayed. The failure to display the rearview image creates a noncompliance with the requirements of FMVSS 111 – “Rear Visibility,” increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy

I'm guessing they will reprogram it? I will update when I get the recall completed.

edit - they reflashed the HU and now it boots faster. The ambient light sensor needed some time to recalibrate, that was annoying.

My wife has had her 17 Impreza HU reflashed about 6 times. At least two of these were recalls for the back up camera. Although the Impreza is not noted there this one was just done on Thursday.

Supposedly, the part will arrive tomorrow or Tuesday. At that time, I'll be scheduled for the actual repair. I'll post an update when there's something to add.

See if they can slide you the TSB and post it here

This might be a silly question but I just got my car back from the valve spring recall, do they change the oil when they swap the part out? Just trying to get my maintenance schedule sorted out.

I emailed in to australiancar.reviews and they have updated their page with the coil pack TSB 07-120-17R.

Just got our ‘13 FR-S back from the same repair and the paper has line items for 0W20 oil and filter as well as Freon.

Will do. Just got confirmation today that the part is in. Need to call on Monday to schedule the service.

Long shot for more info... I had my plugs done by the dealership @ just over 60K, and, almost certainly coincidentally, seem to have been getting about 2 or 3 less mpg ever since (at around 75K now). My son, who's a total car nut, said that there's a TSB out for leaking fuel injector seals in the early FR-S (mine's a 2013). He listened to the engine and heard a distinct sort of whooshing pop after reving the engine and letting it return to idle, which he said confirms that diagnosis. I haven't seen a TSB for that. Anybody know anything? I've got a "Certified" warranty for another 25K miles or until July, 2019, whichever comes first, on the drivetrain. Covered? The car, other than the slight drop in mpg, seems to be running as it always has... great.

How much they charge you for the spark plugs?

Just dug out the bill. That was at 63K miles, and I had them do a whole bunch of stuff; plugs, diff, manual trans oil, brake fluid, engine oil and filter, and coolant. The whole bill was around $780, I think. The plugs were listed as "Job #2" on the invoice, and totalled $377.71. The plugs were $24.95/ea!!.. and three hours labor totalling $270ish. My warrant runs out in July, and after that I'll resume doing all this stuff myself for a lot less dough, but it was worth the peace of mind to have the dealership have records of fastidious adherence to maintenance schedules and to cultivate a good relationship with them. ESPECIALLY since they just did the valve recall for me two weeks ago, and were great about it.

Hope that helps.. haven't seen you around here much recently. Hope things are going well for you.

Thanks. Just hit 50k ish so I’m close to spark plug time. Usually do it around every 25-30k miles. With newer cars I’ve owned it seems spark plugs can remain longer in between swaps.

My spark plugs had about 140,000 miles on them when replaced as part of the spring recall. I had asked them to save them for me so I could look at them, but they didn't note it in the work order so that wasn't done unfortunately.

In any case, I noticed no decline in performance (or improvement with the new ones).

Plugs are pretty amazing these days, not like when we were kids.

My Honda service says plugs every 100k miles.

As long as those little flecks of iridium are still on the electrodes, the plugs are fine. Something has to be seriously wrong with an engine if it's fouling plugs.
