New transmission feels great! No issues in any gear.

I was once told by a service manager at Nissan:
"We have never had a problem with the brake rotors warping on the 300ZX, but we installed the factory fix for you..."

WAIT WHAT!?! So you are saying there is a "factory fix" for a problem that Nissan has never seen before? - RIIIIGHT...wink wink nudge nudge.

:bonk:

incidentally after replacing the rotors 4 times under warranty with less than 30,000 miles on the car, the car was returned under the lemon law.
This was back in ~86 IIRC

Unfortunately here in ga I'll never even be able to claim lemon if this trans acts up since it has to be documented or started work before 12k or some other crazy low mileage

In Georgia, the issue needs to be reported within 24k miles or two years, whichever occurs first.

Quote:

The Georgia Lemon Law:
The vehicle must be purchased, leased, or registered in Georgia.
Covers new motor vehicles or demonstration vehicles, if titled as new.
Covers new trucks up to 12,000 pounds gross vehicle weight rating and the self-propelled and chassis
portion of new motor homes.
Covers nonconformities first reported within the lemon law rights period, which is the first two years
or 24,000 miles of operation of the vehicle, whichever occurs first.

A vehicle may qualify under the lemon law after the manufacturer or its authorized dealer has been
given a reasonable number of attempts to repair the same nonconformity within the lemon law rights
period, but has not been able to repair the nonconformity.
Under the lemon law, a reasonable number of attempts is deemed to be: (a.) one attempt, if the
nonconformity is a serious safety defect; (b.) three attempts, if the nonconformity, although not a
serious safety defect, substantially impairs the use, value, or safety of the vehicle; or, (c.) a
cumulative total of 30 days during which the vehicle is out of service for repair of one or more
nonconformities.
After a reasonable number of attempts to repair a serious safety defect or any other nonconformity
(either a. or b. above), the consumer must notify the manufacturer and provide the manufacturer
with a final opportunity to repair the nonconformity.
If the manufacturer fails to correct the nonconformity after the final repair attempt, or if the vehicle is
out of service by reason of repair of one or more nonconformities for a cumulative total of 30 days,
the consumer may be eligible for a refund for the purchase price of the vehicle or a replacement
vehicle.
It is very important to keep copies of all work orders, reports (such as vehicle inspection, diagnosis,
or test drive reports) and written correspondence with the manufacturer. Remember, you are entitled
to receive a fully itemized and legible statement or repair order each time you take your vehicle in for
diagnosis or repair.
To assert your rights under the law, other requirements may apply. For further information, contact
the Governor’s Office of Consumer Protection.

I don't know if they will. TSB says that a countermeasure was incorporated into production in July 2012 starting with VIN number D*602788.

Are you sure you have the same noise? You can find the video in this thread.

The sound in the video isn't great but I'm pretty sure I got the same thing just less frequent

I see. I would try below before bringing it in to the dealer. This fixed mine and it takes only a minute to do. I used WD40. The noise has been gone for over 2 years now. The spot to spray is not inside the pocket. If you push the spot marked with red circle in the picture firmly enough, then the 2 metals open up a little bit at where the red straw is pointing at. You spray between those 2 metals.

I'm curious if one of those trunck braces that lines up right under across that beam would help?
