Ordering From The Factory?

Noob question.

I've been calling my local Subaru dealer waiting for a SWP limited AT. They say they won't let me put a deposit on one, which I understand given the demand -- but instead of calling all the time, I'd rather just order one from the factory and wait for my ship date. They say I can't do that either. Is my dealer being dumb or is this some new?

Also anyone order their car without the factory wheels (especially since I'm going aftermarket anyway)? I assume there's a price break..

Unless you are able to find one locally, you WILL be ordering from the factory (through your dealer). I'm not sure why your dealer wouldn't take your deposit and put in the order...although waiting time will be very lengthy. And to your other question, no you can't order it without wheels. You choose Limited or Premium, color and tranny... That's it.

At this point for you to have any hope of getting a BRZ within an acceptable timeframe you need to find one on a dealer's lot. There are tons in the Northeast but that may be a bit far for you; try to find one quasi-local without a markup.

My dealership was done taking deposits when I called, but they put me on a list to call when one arrived that hadn't already been pre-ordered (or if the pre-order fell through). You shouldn't have to call all the time, let them work to sell you a car!

Thanks for the quick replies!!

That's how it goes when the dealers are by far at the longer end of the lever

From a couple of other threads I don't think they are taking orders since they wouldn't be fulfilled until like May of 2013. Like others said your best bet is to search autotrader or cars.com for what you are looking for.

The CA market stinks for BRZ buyers right now... consider buying a car out of state and bringing it in to CA.

Thanks everybody!!

Good luck, going to be about a 6 month wait on a order. I was under the impression I could just put $500 down and order the color and what I wanted anytime I wanted. But after talking with two dealers,(I too thought the first one was full of shit!) I ended up driving 300 miles and actually finding one on the lot with what I wanted. I suggest using cars.com or autotrader to look around to see what is out there, unless you are in no rush. I was in no hurry to get one, but was real hard to walk away when it is in front of you.(Like looking at a hot chick ready to go at it and you say I'll come back some other time I'm not in the mood - you will get in the mood real fast! lol)

The dealer would not take a deposit because they may not be able to order one, a 2014 model year, yet. The dealer has the integrity to not accept money for something they cannot yet do.

Who did you speak to at the dealership? I would ask to speak to the sales manager and just be straight with him. Say "look, I want to buy a car. You're in the business of selling cars, and so far you haven't given me the inclination that you want to sell me one. I want a BRZ and I'm ready to buy it as soon as possible. What are my options?" They're crazy to turn down a potential customer even if it means they won't make the sale for 6 months.

On a side note, even here in New England there are no available SWP Limited AT's to be had. There's one Ltd AT available and the rest are all ordered cars and likely pre-sold.

I'm confused, why not place an order for a 2013 model? It is certainly too early for a 2014 order, they haven't announced it yet. Wait a year.

The dealership told me that they can not take orders for a BRZ right now. Orders can begin again in January 2013 (for a "2014" model). Delivery would be as stated something like April or May 2013.
