Wheel Directory: OEM Subaru Impreza STi (JDM 2001) 17x7.5 +53

I came across a pretty good deal on a set of jdm gold sti wheels 17x7.5 with 53 offset with really good winter tires, but 225 45 17. Just the tires are worth his asking price. Should I jump on these? Does anyone think the 225 is too wide for winter? |

Excellent price!

That width even with 53 offset should clear everything without problems. Your speedo will be off a bit, so what, it's a winter set. Thinner, taller tires are supposedly better for snow but I don't believe such a small increase in width will make any difference.
FYI, Like you I picked up a used set for winter with 225/40/18 tires, 18x8, 43 offset, no clearance problems. Your wheels are a lot nicer than mine, even in gold(not my color of choice). Enjoy. |
1.464% size difference according to tire rack. Probably wont even notice it. I'm going to try and pick them up tomorrow.

Definitely not too wide. Narrower the better in snow but I had 255 Blizzaks on my 370z and that thing was a tank in the snow!

Do it. Great looking wheels.

Why would the speedo be off? It's the same height as OEM tires/wheels. The width is not going to change speedo readings.
You should fit fine with those. I'm running 225/45/17s on a set of 05 Legacy GT 17x7 +55. No fitment issues. My summer wheels/tires are 225/45/17 on 17x8.5 +43 Advans. Also no issues. |

If you ever want to see the difference the width will make in the overall diameter you can go to tirerack and find a given tire and then click on specs. It will show the overall diameter of the tire and various other sizes of that tire for you to compare. Good information to have if you're concerned with maintaining the gearing the car currently has. A larger overall diameter might make the car feel a little slower but you'd probably get slightly better highway mileage at the same speed. |
