FR-S E85 Tuned!
Wanted to let everyone know that I had my FR-S tuned to E85 because of the gas shortages in NY/NJ. I'm very lucky to have it done very fast thanks to Mike at Prime Motoring! I can really feel the power difference!! I'm able to switch between O93 and E85 from the cruise control switch! Awesome!
Can't wait for the P&L Turbo kit end of this month! |
Did you need to change anything fuel system wise? And how exactly does the changing of tunes happen via cruise control?
|
Do you loose the cruise control function when you get the tune?
|
The cruise control lever is used to switch between maps, allowing for him to switch between the two types of gas (provided he runs it really low and then fills up with the other type of gas). You have to hold the cruise control lever back for a few seconds (3-5 i think) and then it allows this function (after being tuned). And no, you do not lose any functionality of the cruise control. You can look up ECUtek racerom features on youtube and find a few videos showing how it all works and the other awesome features you can get with a tune from ECUtek.

And...awesome thought/job switching to E85 to avoid the gas shortage. Bravo!

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YtbAxq_GymI"]Subaru BRZ Ecutek map switching - YouTube[/ame] (I only have two maps) Non-stealthy edit: Cool thing is you really can "switch maps on the fly". Sometimes I'll be driving and realize I want to be in map 2, I can just go ahead and do it while driving. Very cool feature! |
You have to run your tank VERY low almost nearing Empty. Then fill up with the fuel you want. Turn on your car, choose which map you want then confirm. Keep in mind that every time you start your car it will default to Octane 93 so you will always have to select E85 if that's what you have in your tank. I actually had E85 in the tank and drove it while it was set to Octane 93 and the car cut after a foot or two. Silly me on that part, so I'm making it a habit to confirm which mode I have every time I turn on the car...
I want to make it clear that John is working on making sure the car will default to whichever grade you choose so you don't have to always change the fuel grade from O93 to E85 on every key start. |
lmao thats crazy..i was really thinking about doing the same thing because of the gas shortage and i was really desperate for gas but then i checked my e85 station and they were out..lucky enough i drove to where visconti lived because i heard there were no lines and i filled up at the bp by him two days ago. this gas shortage is no joke out here and im really debating on just getting e85 right now because i hear the station by me is filled up with it again
|
How much does something like this cost? I have quite a few E85 stations in town, but can't always guarantee that I'll have it on a road trip. This is the perfect compromise.
