Detailing supply kit ?!?!?
 

I was hoping y'all could steer me in the right direction of a detailing 'kit,' which would cover the basics for just cleaning my car.

I plan on learning paint correction in the near future as well, so I'm not adversed to buying additional items on the side such as a porter cable and the necessary pads.

I know of a local (north new jersey) warehouse that sells what I believe to be discounted kits [https://detailersdomain.com/CAR-CARE-KITS_c_56.html] but I don't know if all the items in the kits they're selling are necessary for what I'm looking to do. Any help is appreciated~

Here's what I would start with:

1. Wheels - brushes (tire, wheel, fender well), Sonax wheel cleaner, Adam's All Purpose Cleaner for the fender wells
2. Wash - Two 5 gallon buckets with grit guards, soap of your choice (any on detailer's domain should be fine), wash mitt, microfiber drying towels
3. Interior - 303 Aerospace cockpit protectant, some detailing brushes to get into crevices

If you have water restrictions, you could go with Optimum No Rinse. You can also do a foam wash if you want as well.

I went with a Griot's Garage DA with Meguiar's Microfiber system for polishing/waxing purposes. I also used Opti-Coat on my car and Optimum Detail and Gloss enhancer spray in between washes. For my wife's car, I use a good hand applied wax and buff with some microfiber towels. For the windows, I use Invisible Glass.

Anyone have advice on portercables / pads? I was thinking of trying to get a second hand porter cable and purchasing a set of pads for paint correction. I've got some scratches following Sandy plus it wouldn't hurt to have in case I decide to start offering some services to my friends ;)

Porter Cable is a great choice to learn and start doing corrections. I recommend getting the 5" backing plate and the following 5.5" pads: White, Green, Black and Blue. Also get yourself some Meguiar's #105 and #205 polishes. You'll be set for a while with this. As for what you've mentioned already, I would switch the Sonax wheel cleaner for Diablo wheel gel concentrate. It's cheaper and since you car is new and will be well maintained from the get go, you don't a cleaner as strong and expensive as the Sonax.
