Roof dents from BIG rock on freeway

So I had an amazing day today with the first South FL FRS/BRZ meet, nice turn out with 17 cars (only 2 BRZ's).

To the point. Coming down the Tpike almost at my exit, I heard a LOUD sound, and instantly knew it was bad. (see below pics)

Now my questions and concerns. I don't mind the dents that much, it was bound to eventually happen. My only concern is that the exposed metal is going to rust.

I want your honest options, and suggestions. Can I touch up paint it and call it a day? I really honestly hugely DON'T want my roof repainted. It will never be like factory. I can deal with it being dented for real, but want to know if i only do touch up paint, will the rest of the paint continue to crack and fall off?

Thanks for your help!!

Hmmm. Opportunity to wrap the roof: black (like the pack) or WHITE?

If you do a wrap, just clean the area with 10% isopropyl/water, dry and rub in bees wax first.

I really don't want to wrap it. The more I look at it, the more I think I will end up with the best reputable auto painter in Miami. I think touch up paint won't be good enough to prevent rust and paint cracking.

There are ways to massage the dent out, then you get a tiny bit of filler for the scrape.. and then paint... you can wetsand before you paint then 3 layers of touch up paint, wet sand then buff it... Go watch some videos on "Paint COrrection" the process is the same but you add in a little touch up paint... the DENT is the harder to fix thing.

As far as rust is concerned, since the roof is aluminum instead of steel, it shouldn't be too bad, though I agree you should get it fixed regardless.

I'm pretty sure the roof is made of steel, not aluminum. See http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...9&postcount=72, or the rest of that thread if you want to see the back and forth debate on whether it's aluminum (along with several unsubstantiated claims) or steel (with empirical evidence based on testing with magnets).

Oops, I guess I was misinformed! I thought that back before the car came out I had heard a claim that it would be aluminum to save weight/lower center of gravity. And with as loud and obnoxious as it sounds while driving in the rain, I assumed it was aluminum still.

First post has been updated with more detailed pictures.

As far as I have heard, roof and all other body panels are steel, other than the hood and trunk, which are aluminum.

Wow that's a nasty dent! I would have a PDR specialist look at it before doing any paintwork to it. When I had a door ding I was able to SMS a picture of the ding to the PDR guy for an estimate before my actual appointment; perhaps you can do something similar to see what can be done to fix that.
