BRZ hardwire radar.

here is a quick and easy DIY to hardwire your radar into your BRZ. i know there is one already on this site, but this one is a bit simpler IMO.

to start get the right wireless connectors. blue ones were too big, as well as the on that came with the V-1.

anyway i wired it to the auto-dimming mirror the harness SHOULD be there even if you don't have the mirror as an accessory.

to get to it simply pull the dome light, it ISN'T screwed in and just pooped out. there are 4 metal clips that hold it in place just give it a nice tug. (i'm not responsible for you snapping anything)

then locate the harness. it will be on the right, and will consist of three wires. BLACK BLUE GREY. atleast thats what it was one mine.

you tap ground to the BLACK wire which is ground.

then you tap power to the GREY wire which was power.
the blue wire didn't get any power when i tested it.

then after you tap it just make sure to connect your radar to double check before you tuck everything up. it should be on in acc and on.

i mounted my radar in the top left corner and ran the wire along the headliner.

here is where i mounted it. out of the way but close enough to mute. also for radars to work effectively they HAVE TO BE MOUNTED HIGH with clear visibility and no obstructions. so mount carefully.

enjoy,

Pictures no work...

No offense but how is this easier then the method in the thread I posted? The wires in this look sloppy compared to the thread I posted where it is 1 simple wire with 2 prongs you plug into the existing harness....

didn't know you'd get butthurt.

this uses the stock hardwire kit that came with the v-1 and one extra tap. this is the same way i did it in my 11' sti. its just a different option for people who prefer positaps so they know which wires to tap. please explain how it looks sloppy? i took a picture off all the wire hanging for a reason...so you can see where it all runs.

The last radar detector comparison I read found better results by fitting them low as the signals were reflected off the car bonnet and amplified the signal.

I'll try to retrace my steps and post it?

Edit-Couldn't find that one but the first article when I googled "best place position radar detector" got this which said low.

Here's the one I read before.

i'd appreciate that.

will these steps work for the stock frs? I noticed that you have a different rear view mirror than i do.

Jive Turkey 11-07-2012 01:18 PM

it should. i know on the wrx's and sti's the wiring was already there for the autodimming mirror. in theory it SHOULD be there, to check just pull the dome light and feel for a harness on the passenger side. if you dont have that mirror it will just be the male end that i spliced into.

I think low mounting works well for forward facing radar detection (where most of the risk is) due to the reason posted previously. I think high mounting is advised because some radar detectors, like my Escort, detect both in front of and behind the car. Low mounting will impair rearward detection if the unit ends up sitting below the bottom of the rear window opening.

I checked my wiring with a multimeter Blue is Positive, Grey is Negative and Black is just N/A.

Can anyone else confirm this?

I should have mentioned this before but why not just get one of the fused connection kits from eBay and wire your radar detector into your rear view mirror? That's what I did.
