Mounting a Fire Extinguisher

2 Attachment(s)
Hello,
Where are people mounting their fire extinguishers for track days etc?

I have just made a bracket to mount it in front of the drivers seat. Its just a simple set up using the front seat mounts. I used longer bolts and machined some spacers.

It is ok for me but it means that the seat can't be moved forward. I think it would be better if it mounted to the seat base so it moved with the seat, but the hard part about that is the seat adjuster is a bar across in front of the seat.

I will post up some pictures shortly.

My dog is clever - he does this all the time :laughabove:

I'm making an alloy bracket to mount it in a similar spot this weekend, took a template of the floor during the week. The bracket lugs will sit under the seat rail feet and the bracket will be bent to sit the extinguisher close to the floor

I was thinking of going under the seat brackets but was not sure if it would change seat angle or something.

Its got just enough room to get the floor mats out.

I would like one that is removable, by pulling an R clip. Also the vin number is there on that crossmember.

Interesting post.
Maybe this post should be in "Tracking / Autocross / HPDE" sub forum.
I have the extinguisher in my existing car mounted in the same place as the op (but can still move the seat forward). The other place I have seen extinguishers is mounted on the passenger side of the drive shaft tunnel. Maybe that is doable in 86/BRZ.

Here's the thread on the cup holder/centre console mount. Looks perfect to me.

... I AM DOING THIS. That's sick!

yea center console is the way to go imo

Panman 11-02-2012 06:46 AM

Not for me, I like to have an extinguisher in the car all the time, and mounting in the centre means I give up the centre console.

If you are either more interested in looks than storage, or actually willing to mount and unmount the extinguisher every time you track the car that's fine.

travace 11-02-2012 06:59 AM

yea i would unmount it personally but that spot is usless as storage anyhow so i dont see a issue with leaving it there if you wanted.

Mine lives there
No problems, as mentioned it's pretty useless

Panman 11-02-2012 06:31 PM

Ahh, I do longish drives and spend a lot of time in the car even around town - need my phone and sunnies in there as well as all the daily receipts. i agree it useless for secure storage though.

TBH I also like keeping heavyish things low in the car if possible.
