Everybody's probably seen this, but our 86 is a finalist -

2013 SA Car of Year finalists

86 FTW!!!! :party0030:

But seriously though, which car do you guys think will take the crown?

Great :-) The 86 is definitely worthy of a nomination but but I think, historically, this is generally awarded to the more well-rounded contenders. My guess would be the new 3 Series BMW or Hyundai i30. Downfall of the 86 would be lack of rear seats, poor boot space etc.. Just my guess.

Yes, sadly as a family car the 86 isn't practical at all. I think the 3 series BMW has the best chance of winning it this year, good fuel economy, performance and it's practical as well..

I think BM, Hyundai or Rio

But really hoping for 86

i'd rather have the 86 stay a fairly well kept secret :)
god forbid it becomes as common as a 3 series, although i do think it would lift the average driving skills. in recent months i've noticed that i10, i20, i30 drivers have become the most insecure drivers on the road (prob b/c they're popular rental vehicles?)

The BMW.

i think the Kia Rio 1.4 TEC is gonna take it, bought my wife one a few months back, and that car has more gadgets than a Swiss army knife and only 200k

With only 6000 being produced monthly of which are 500 BRZ, and 58 allocated to SA, I doubt that would happen.

My 86 is my everyday car but where possible I drive my girlfriend's i20 1.6 on the weekend and while it is no slouch, the very electric/elastic steering gives you no idea what the car is doing. That's my only gripe about the Korean cars. Great for commuters, no good for drivers.

In our economical climate, the Rio makes sense as a win. Well priced, well specced, practical and quite pretty. I almost bought a Kia Cerato Koup two years ago but again the steering is that car's only real flaw. Peter Schreyer has done wonders for Kia.

Speaking of the Rio - a friend's wife hit a polo in her 1.4 Tec, R2000 for a new 205/45R17 tyre. A bit stupid to use such a rare size tyre on a budget car.

Vic_RSA 01-13-2013 03:13 AM

Maybe the sedan is a better option without the pretty rims...
