Hood Scoop?

I saw a post on a SEMA build that has a hood scoop a while back...i think the picture below is the final result.

Anyone know of any company that made a custom hood scoop similar to this one?

I believe that its the Toca FRS, they're out of Chicago if i remember correctly they're one of the Tuners in competition at SEMA for the FRS'. It's pretty sweet i like the lights in the fog light area a lot.

When I first saw this photo I was so distracted by the bad fit of the 5AD kit I didn't even see the hood scoop!

I like it but think I prefer this one (sorry large photo, not mine, click photo to see original thread)

Agreed, I would love to get that hood

gmookher 10-30-2012 01:59 PM

uh, I feel like top pic is well, more subie looking!

Different functions. One serves to evacuate hot under-hood air, while the other serves to force cold air into the engine bay (or intake, if it's ram-air). I agree the second looks better, though

well, this car has no top mount i/c, so, why would you want a "hood scoop"? No one has even made a kit with a top mount yet. I really don't see the reason for one like this. Agreed with evacuating the engine bay heat, vented hoods are what this car needs. Sorry to disagree with all the subie guys, but seriously, why would you want that hood?

It would be fairly easy to make it a functional scoop for ram-air...with the right intake setup and tuning. The throttle body is positioned back far enough to make it at least somewhat feasible

No top mount intercooler, no hood scoop. Simple.

id like to see what both hoods look like from the drivers seat.

The reason hood scoops are a Subie thing is because top mount intercoolers are also a Subie thing. Since the 86 does not have one, a hood would be better off with vents than a scoop.

If you need to have one for looks here is a guy who is making them,

I think the first pic (the one of the hood scoop) looks nicer, but I agree the second one is very likely more useful. Incidentally, in addition to drawing hot air out of the engine bay, I wonder if it improves aerodynamics as well by drawing air from under the vehicle and routing it over the top? (Oh, and who actually makes that vented hood?)
