Custom Shift Knob by Chris from WC Lathe Werk
So i like the design of the TRD Duracon knob BUT i wanted something a little heavier and with a larger sphere up top. I decided that i would design my own and see if Chris from WC Lathe Werks could help me make it a reality. So i spoke with Chris and sent him the model i designed in CATIA to see what he could do. After a few revisions and incorporating some of Chris' own ideas here is the final design we came up with:
http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8186/8...b04f5b7e_b.jpg The sphere has a diameter of 2" which tapers down a skirt with 1.125" diameter @ .5" tall. The total height of the knob is 3". He gave me a price that i gladly forked over to him and a few days later this is what came in the mail: http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8051/8...79e28ea5_z.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8048/8...d0ac5c59_z.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8192/8...21455c0e_z.jpg And here she is installed: http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8336/8...2b3fdece_z.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8190/8...78bbf957_z.jpg It is made out of aluminum and bead blasted (if you didn't know what finish that is.) I haven't weighed it because i do not have a gram scale but CATIA guestimated it around 240-245 grams. Chris' craftsmanship is top notch! He added the little extra touches that make the knob pop that much more...Cant give the guy enough praise. The feel is exactly what i wanted. From a side grip, the skirt provides a resting place for your pinky or ring finger depending on how you grip it and from the top it just feels like your standard 2" dia ball knob. I created this thread to brag about my bad ass custom knob and to give Chris props for his superb customer service, fast shipping and great craftsmanship! I highly recommend Chris/WC Lathe Werks. |
