suspension review: hotchkis springs
It's been a long time coming but I'm ready to provide my thoughts on the hotchkis springs.
First off, I'm no one important, just a track addict that bought an FRS. not currently sponsored by anyone but looking to change that going into next season. Anyway, the springs are good. Not anything that will blow your mind but a very capable and consistent setup for what i believe is still the lowest price. With a matched damper this could be a very nasty budget conscious choice for many. Car feels the same same as stock on the street, maybe slightly more stable. On track it's actually really good for just springs and the Subaru upper bolts ($12 upgrade lol). Yes some form of front camber correction will be required but once that's out of the way you're good.the car retains the handling it had stock while picking up a bit of cornering stability and speed. Long story short my exit speeds this wknd were on average 6-8 mph faster! Ridiculous change but i can't give all of the credit to the springs, i also added Michelin pss at the 215 size. car feels great tho and is still an absolute joy to push on track. Street normal driving i don't feel any difference than stock and have not bottomed out or scraped actually. 25mm drop ftw. getting a little aggressive you start to get a sense that the car picked up that something and gives you a little more cornering confidence if you're missing it, then again that is in combination with pss. on ramps and off ramps get faster and braking feels more apparent. One of the things i was concerned with getting springs was most companies benchmarked the brz and are providing product based on upgrading brz handling. I do not have any brz experience but i like the frs liveliness and did not want to lose that. hotchkis delivered on the promise that the frs nature would not be compromised. I'm much more inclined to check out the sways and plates from them to take this further. this isn't a bash on any other company but I'm happy with the product i obtained and with the performance I've experienced. for what it's worth if you just want a drop and don't want much else to change, hotchkis is a good product to consider. |
