WRX Sti turbo on frs?
 

Will a stock turbo kit from an Sti work on an frs? Friend of mine wants to know if its possible. I don't know a ton about turbos but he was curious if he could swap turbo and ECU to frs. Sorry if this sounds weird he explained it much better.

D3 makes a turbo kit that looks much like an STi in terms of placement the EJ257 turbo header, up-pipe and downpipe would not fit as the FA20 engine's dimensions are smaller and the space to put them is pretty tight. as for the turbo it would be okay maybe. you wouldn't need to swap the ecu. ECUTEK software and a tuner can tune the factory ECU to work with a turbo.

Also the engine is much much closer to the firewall then a Impreza

Look up Crawford Performance, their turbo kit uses an STI turbo.

He has a salvage yard and if a rear ended Sti came in he wanted to try to swap it over to my car. Would that be a huge pain in the balls to do what would I need to change out

Custom up-pipe, and downpipe if you want it in the same spot as an STI might want to go to a smaller lithium battery and heat-shield, have to run oil lines for the turbo, turbo blanket and wrap the up and downpipes to avoid melting anything in the engine bay. other than that an intercooler, piping, BOV, and a place to put the maf sensor

I honestly don't think it's worth the effort. The EJ257 and FA20 are pretty different. You would be better off selling the sti longblock and just buying a kit.

The Greddy drift FRS has done the swap, but they said some major work had to be done. Also, the FA20 so far is handleing just as much, if not more WHP than the FJ, so your better off just purchasing a turbo kit of your choice if that's what your after.

There are also much better turbos than what came on STIs. The VF turbos are good at spooling quickly, but they start to lose steam up top.

The turbo or the engine? The turbo requires lots of custom piping, mounting, have to figure out how to get oil and coolant to it, have to figure out how to intercool it, need to tune the ECU for it.

Swapping the engine would require a different front crossmember, you'd have to figure out how to mount the steering rack, you would need a new transmission or a custom bellhousing to mate the engine to the existing transmission, completely different ECU and wiring, fuel system, etc.

Better off saving your money and buying a kit unless you have a lot of fabrication skills and know-how.
