Pioneer radio upgrade question...

One dealership i went to told me that if I upgraded the pioneer stereo system the speakers would be the same as in the standard model and the only difference would be the touch screen console vs the regular push-button radio.

Another dealership told me that the upgrade includes upgraded speakers...any confirmation on what is what?

as far as the upgrade goes in the US it is only the radio there is no speaker upgrade

there's 2 upgrades, really, but only one is offered as an option. the other is more of an aftermarket thing. the factory option is the Bespoke head unit (touchscreen). the aftermarket is the OEM Audio Plus upgrade which swaps a few speakers and adds an 8" sub in your trunk. the second upgrade is about a grand which in my opinion is not worth it at all based on the specs. here's a link for the OEM Audio Plus: http://www.oemaudioplus.com/frs.html.

Thought I would bump this because I'm wondering the same thing. Also, I believe the upgraded pioneer head unit in Canada is different from the US options.

The Pioneer touchscreen radio "upgrade" (Bespoke in the US) DOES NOT come with new speakers.

I'm also in Canada and I have the upgraded touch screen and the same terrible speakers are included. You're basically just paying for the deck, there's no appreciable difference between this and the stock system sound wise.

There's also a "Bonjiovi" upgrade you can (in Canada at least) get but it's just a DSP and it doesn't replace the speakers either. Apparently it does sound significantly better than stock but considering how underpowered the whole system is I'm not really sure how they managed to make it sound good.

The pioneer unit should have more power than the stock unit, and it has 6 rca pre outs for easy amplifier upgrades. the stock system has a horrible external amp powering the subs in the doors. you'll want to replace this amp as a first step and the pioneers power will be better suited to your new sub amp.

I'm almost certain the speakers remain unchanged with the pioneer HU in Canada.

Yeah the pre-outs are nice if you're looking to add aftermarket power and keep the stock look.

I'm pretty sure both the stock and upgraded touch screen are considered 300watt systems so I'm not sure if there's more power.

I'll verify some of this (I have the upgraded Pioneer)
Both 300w, both amplified.
It only upgrades the head unit, the speakers are identical.
I find the system sounds decent for factory.
The upgraded pioneer does have lots of preouts however some people find they are unreliable.

stock radio

I hear a lot of people complaining about the factory radio, and I think many people just haven't taken the time to set it up. In fact, many people don't even have the subwoofers turned on! I find that the sound system is a proper fit for the car because the last thing you want is to be blasting subwoofers and miss out on the music coming from the boxer. Baaaaaaaaaaah! Baaaaaaaaah! Baaaaaaaaaah!
