Rust Speck
 

So I've got a speckle of rust on the passenger rear quarter panel, just a random spec, like pin needle sized, running my finger over it i can feel the texture.

I'm guessing some sort of factory defect, is this sort of thing covered by waranty?

Maybe its rail dust? What ever it is, its probably attached to your paint.

Try some iron-x first. It's probably rail rust.

Are you sure it's rust and not just a rail/brake dust deposit? Try using a claybar on the spot. What color is your car? It's most common on white.

Updated first post with pic, very faint rust type stain is spreading.

That's pretty big for rail dust...probably a small stone chip that went down to the metal. I doubt the dealership would do anything. I would suggest letting a detailer look at it first though to see what could be done.

Oh and clean your fingernails!! haha I'm just kidding buddy...

That specs been there since i got the car but i noticed it again recently.

Whats a detailer? like a body shop guy?

Definitely rail dust. I had a ton of those on my bumper, I must have applied iron x 4 times to remove most of it.

Someone who specializes in paint correction/protection, clay barring, waxing, etc. Don't go to a body shop first, they will most likely tell you that the entire quarter panel needs painting.

Judging by the centralized hole and how the texture is spreading like that; to me, it's clearly a rock chip straight down to the bare metal... causing it to oxidize and rust like that.

If I were you, I would try to get as much of that rust out as possible with least damage to the surround area as possible (Maybe mask the whole area)... then put on some touch up paint.

Our rear quarter sticks out a bit; the front wheel will be spitting these rocks onto it especially with high speeds... Should get it all fixed and clear-bra that portion.

It looks like rail dust. The tiny particles of steel thrown by the brakes on trains are not all the same size. Some make bigger rust spots than others do. It's too small a dot to be a stone chip. The dealership should go over the entire car to eliminate any and all of it.

Rail rust or "industrial fallout" as it's more accurately termed, is metallic particulant that is in the environment (road water, dust, airborne debris etc) that lands on ur paint and sits on top of the clearcoat. On hot days, may even begin to latch onto the clearcoat which then requires claybar or a paint cleaner to remove.

It's not rust from the steel of the vehicle. This is most common on white cars because of the more glaringly obvious contrast in colour.

get it sprayed, clayed, cleaned, buffed and sealed, then drive happy for many years.

Any one that buys a car that has had a train ride as part of it being delivered is going to have a car that has been exposed to rail dust. That is the fine metal particles that are created when ever the brakes on a train are applied. That rail dust turns to rail rust when exposed to moisture. All color of cars will receive it equally. It's just that it's hardly noticeable except on white cars. Dealerships are aware of this and are capable of taking care of the problem.
