Prefered tire pressure guage?
 

So a question came up in the HPDE section about tire guages and preferences. I know this is something that comes up on occasion so I thought a dedicated thread might be useful. Especially since we have a lot of racers on this forum and tire dealers. There has to be some good info on this topic.

Plus, I'm thinking if a vendor has something that works well, we might be able to put together a group buy.

Just as a general starting point, I think the guages can be divided into three categories.

Stick:

Looks like their preference was the Moroso 89560 Tire-Pressure Gauge
Average price is around $40.

Moroso’s 89560 is about the least-expensive racing gauge on the market. Its small, 2.6-inch face takes just a tick longer to read than the others, but what do you want for $37? Features include the basic bleeder valve, angled nozzle with swivel chuck, and 15.5-inch hose with a handy contoured rubber grip. A rubber gauge cover sells for an extra $5, but it’s worth it for the additional protection it provides. (gauge, $36.95; cover, $4.95)

Intercomp (https://www.intercomp-racing.com/cat...ure_Gauges.cfm) has one that seems pretty reasonable. They appear to be well known for accurate digital guages, but those all start around $200 and go up from there.

I use a lot the longacre which is just like the moroso and same price range!

As I mentioned in the other thread, you really want one with a hose because the "stick" and "digital" styles in the OP are fiddly to use. Also, a bleeder valve is really nice.

I cannot stand digital gauges. I'm steam gauges all the way.

I've never had luck with stick style gauges. Don't some of them screw on to the valve stem? This seems ideal.

I even have an attachment for my air compressor (like the kind you see at gas stations). But even that sucks. I think it overreacts and shoots the gauge out farther than it should.
