Winter is here

This is how it looked like this morning when I walked up to my car:

Fortunately I got up a set of Bridgestone Blizzak Nordics mounted on the OEM wheels already on wednesday so getting to work was smooth sailing. :) The traction control and VSC work very nicely in snow, although the VSC does break the slide quite abruptly when it deems that the drift is too wide.

Oh, I thought this was @Dadhawk posting. I was like, "What? Snow in Georgia??"

See? 86/FR-S/BRZ is just fine in the snow, if you have good tires and know how to drive.

Damn looks cold! Good to hear the 86 handles the white stuff ok.

I can't emphasize enough the importance of good winter tyres. It's almost magical how those things grip the snow even when it's so slippery that it's difficult to walk around wearing Airwalks. ;)

Another blizzard just hit us and the forecast says ~10 inches more will fall overnight. Going to be interesting tomorrow.

The best drive-train & most advanced computer in the world WILL get your car moving in the snow, even with summer tires. However, stopping & cornering is basically all in the tire. The ~$1k investment in 4 steel wheels & snow tires pays dividends when you're driving past cars stuck in a ditch, and feels amazing when you can get moving (or stop) and others cant. Plus, swapping the tires/wheels for winter will make sure your summer-set looks great when you throw them back on in the spring!

Nah, can't be mine, I don't have the rear snow-shelf/spoiler.

Snow this early in Georgia would be a sight to see. MomHawk would already have half the house loaded in the Suburban telling me the world had come to an end and she was moving to Florida with or without me.

Looks like the snow is going to melt pretty quickly, but I did manage to snap some photos.

Thanks for sharing. Firestorm looks awesome on snow! I've never experienced RWD on snow. How much difference does snow tire make during winter?

jimmillion 10-27-2012 08:05 PM

are you having any problems with opening the doors? or can your windows move up and down freely even tho theres ice?

SportInjected 10-27-2012 08:07 PM

Oh man, this reminds me that I have to get my set of winter rubber before it starts snowing over here.

I have to say that I'm actually excited about driving this car in the snow.
