my dilemma... how can I 'swap' for a MT GTS?

Hey guys,

So I've had my auto GTS for a while now (since late July) with 3500kms on the clock.

Only recently I've started having cravings for manual, meaning that I am kinda regretting getting an AT in the first place... :mad0259:

I don't feel that all is lost yet though, because of this honeymoon period where resale > rrp cos of supply.

Do you guys think a dealer would 'buy' my car for a swap with a GTS MT? or am I better off trying to get a decent return from a private sale while trying to find unallocated stock somewhere?

I am torn! :mad0259:

EDIT: i've put a deposit down for a gts mt for december delivery :) private sale for my baby soon

Your always better off selling private party unless you are prepared to take a big loss to trade-in.

The main thing I think would be pretty difficult is actually having a MT to buy? Aren't the OZ wait times well into next year at this point?

Maybe you'll be lucky and run into someone on here who has a manual on order and is keen on a auto.

A bit off-topic OP but just FYI. I have ordered a White MT GTS. But I have seen a few black ones and I kinda wanted to change my color. So I called my Toyota dealership and asked if I could do it. My sales-lady told me that the order has already went through. The she was babbling on and went off topic about a "2 YEAR WAIT PERIOD" lol. I was like na its cool white is fine no worries.

But seriously...You are very fortunate to have one. I wish I could be in your shoes. If you sell it privately, you would get a very good return at this point in time but you would have to get into the MT GTS queue. could take ages. Unless that extra 1500 cars really does arrive like the article stated. Your best option IMO is to find someone willing to trade. Good Luck.:burnrubber:

I guess that's my best bet at this point... anyone on here have the problem inverse to what I'm having? haha

I'm only keen on this if I can sort out a seamless swap. I don't want to start the process again - I know I got lucky getting a car within 6 weeks in the first place, so this time might not be so good for me!

After a month of driving a manual in Sydney traffic I predict

Sell it privately and buy an unallocated stock. Which ever way you decide go for a MT GTS you will be forking out extra money.

Personally I prefer all my sports cars manual so I never consider AT as an option ever. If there is one preformance car I would get AT it would only be IS-F. Everything else = Manual

Sydney traffic is bad I admit, but because the MT clutch is so light and has a really short engagement it really isnt much of an issue at all for me and I dont really mind it to be honest.

ty for your suggestion man, but why do you think I'd have to fork out some extra money for a MT GTS? AT GTS is worth a bit more is it not? If I sell, I'll make sure its for a price that gets me a MT GTS with no more out of my pocket...

Ring around, find a car that you want (there are UN-allocated cars about with minimal wait periods) then sell yours privately.

I always buy MT as it's more engaging - you have the control, having said that I have driven the auto and I was pleasantly surprised how good it is ! Good luck

Sydney traffic... come on guys, no excuses. Syd traffic is bad but come on, Clutch pumping is da bomb !

:burnrubber:

the clutch on the 86 a mega light... I kinda freaked out. Ive always been used a to heavier heavy duty clutch. Standard clutches just don't seem to last for me

I think your going to struggle to find someone that wants to swap.

You are looking at anywhere up to 50k for an unallocated one. The next big wave of cars should hit mid December onwards so you might find a better deal then.
