CEL during AutoX

Has anyone had a temporary CEL when you've AutoX or tracked your car?

I was at an AutoX practice and basically on my 4th run in a row (without a break) and my car threw a CEL. stopped my run, went to the pit. Engine was running fine, turned it off and restarted it and the CEL went out.

It happened again and again the CEL went out after stopping and starting the car the 3rd time.

I'm hoping this isn't THE dreaded CEL.

Anyone have any helpful ideas on what could have happened? Maybe a misfire?

I've never had it happen. IMHO that means something is going on that shouldn't be. Try and pull the codes to see if it's been stored.

Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of. I've been driving it to see if the CEL will pop back up. If it doesn't in the next week or so I'll take it to the dealer to check.

I don't know yet. Haven't had it checked by the dealer- hopefully it's in memory.

You can check codes yourself, it is easy. Some auto parts stores, like Oreilly in my area, loan out code readers. You just plug it in to the OBD outlet under the dash on the drivers side; it is a big rectagular block plug. It will read the code and tell you what the problem is.

Thanks. Just had my car at the dealer today and they didn't have time to check the CEL code. They weren't sure it was still in memory.

I guess there's a TSB on the ECU of some BRZs but my care wasn't under the TSB.

I'll have to try this and see if I can pull up a code.

It stays in usually. Go to Autozone and they will tell you. I got the code about HPFP failure between sessions at Sebring. It did cause some revving issues but a few minutes of sitting, it cleared up. Never occurred again, even with another day at Sebring.

In short, go to Autozone and ask them to read the code for you, then let us know what the code is.

You should delete this thread when you take your car in. Don't wan't the dealership to know you were Autocrossing when it happened. Don't give them any reason to deny coverage.

TSY 11-12-2012 05:49 PM

Well, no luck with getting it read at my local auto parts store. They said they can't read the stored codes, only the active ones.

I guess I'll have to try to get my dealership to do it but they don't really seem to want to.

@raul. Thanks for the heads up. I'm not too worried about getting in trouble with the dealership. I wasn't competing- it was just 'spirited driving'. If they give me a hard time I have no issues with getting a lawyer. ;). Dealerships never want to go to trial- they'd never be able to get a jury that didn't have a bad experience with a dealership at some point in their lives! :D

The car was advertised for the tracks, plus OP just autoX'ed it; there shouldn't be a reason for them to void your warranty unless it was still in its break-in period...

Also, with all these TSB about the CEL/SL... They have no reason to deny the warranty as it is a known issue with these vehicles.

an Update. Took my car in for the ECM reprogramming and they were able to get the CEL- it was P00019.

They said it's related to the reason they reprogrammed the ECM and that it shouldn't happen again. I guess we'll see. . .

Mine came on after tracking it. Replace and reset ECU. Car is running fine for the last two months.
