Was told opti coat not recommended by auto detailer?

I was asking about whether or not they do opti coating and prices and was told this:
'We currently do not do the OC. We are in the midst of testing numerous coatings for different criteria. I would not recommend applying the OC to a car that is going to be taken care of b/c if you get swirls in the paint, the OC will have to be removed in order to perform paint correction. I am testing it to use on wheels, wheel wells, etc.'

They do provide 3m clear film but figured it might cost a bit to cover the 'standard'

Anyone know of a place in/around NYC that does OC?

isnt that the reason why we Opti-Coat new cars, before the paint get swirled and we NEED to preform paint correction?

arent you suppose to take care of the swirls before opticoat ?

Just answered this thread: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...d=1#post518157

Quoting myself on what I posted there: "The Opticoat layer is supposed to keep your finish looking the way it did when you applied Opticoat. Therefore proper prep work is required before its application (and why Opticoating costs so much). After that, Opticoat repels everything so that a simple wash would have your car looking like the day you put Opticoat on, that's the idea anyways. "

Even new cars require prep work, just not as much.

Sounds like an incompetent detailer worried about sealing bad work in permanently.

I've noticed a few imperfections sealed under my OptiCoat; it's annoying so be sure you take the car to someone very good. Not saying the guy I went to did a bad job, just a job that isn't perfect (which is what I wanted).

The paint is fully cured by the time you buy the car.
You do have to follow this when you get your car painted at a bodyshop and wait for about 30 days.

This is someone who is not familiar with the product at all.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone posted how to maintain OC/OG? This knowledge needs to be out there.

The Opti-Coat is a coating that goes on top of the paint. Assuming the paint was perfect before the Opti-Coat was applied, the swirls that would then appear from repeated washing would be ON the Opti-Coat, not under it, therefor in a place where it would be possible to correct it easily.

Sounds like they're trying to get repeat business for more $$, or he's not that bright.

You do a full correction, then coat the car. The coating keeps swirls OUT.
