Just the thought regarding model variation

So it was recently reported that the BRZ is going to be closer to 300 horsepower than 200 horsepower. I wrote it off as malarkey, and thought this would be a very slight difference from the power output of the BRZ engine compared to the FR-S engine.

However, what's to stop them from dropping the 265 Horsepower WRX engine into it? I mean, seriously, what would they need to do to put in the EJ255 engine? Would a whole new drivetrain need to be made to put that engine into it? or would it just bolt up to the 6 speed manual that would come attached to the FR-S? How difficult would it be for that engine to be used?

Could this be what they meant when it came to the difference in horsepower?

I have many questions, and I can't wait until Novermber 30th, so, start your speculations. :happy0180:

I'll be nice and give you few reasons

1. EJ is old design engine
2. TMIC won't fit
3. Power output isn't FR design

fatoni 10-26-2011 11:24 PM

are you asking us if a motor will fit in an engine bay and bolt up to a transmission that we have never seen?

I know this isn't the engine in the FR-S, but if Subaru says they are bringing the BRZ with closer to 300 HP, I'm thinking they can't just use the regular engine and leave it NA. Is it more of a possibility that the FR-S is going to be FI?

Also, I don't know much about Subaru engines, that's why I asked how hard it would be to install it in the FR-S since the FR-S layout is RWD, and the WRX is 4WD.

Subaru never said that. They definately wont ship the car with an EJ engine.

Autocar was spouting bullshit like normal.

That's what I first thought, but everyone seems to be taking them more seriously, talking as if this car will be bringing closer to 300hp, and a much higher price, than the simpler FR-S.

Hope they are all wrong.

Few things are official:
-Both the BRZ and the FRS are indentical mechanically
-the engine will not have a turbo.

Soooo there is no way on earth a 2.0 engine can
Achieve 300hp without FI. That is a stupid rumor
Autocar started and a bunch of magazines quoted.
If there are any power differences it will only
Be 20 hp tops.

Sea1monkey2 10-27-2011 01:33 AM

closer to 300hp could be the difference between toyota-201hp and subaru-206hp

ryun84 10-27-2011 01:59 AM

Autocar is just writing articles on what they WANT to see in the BRZ rather than reporting facts through interviews.

iff2mastamatt 10-27-2011 02:21 AM

200 hp will be plenty for this car. Considering that it *should* be under 2900 lbs, this thing should be peppy. I wonder how much faster the subie version will be if they do make it closer to 300 hp...

ryun84 10-27-2011 04:05 AM

What I'm afraid of is the BRZ not just having more hp, but also weighing more... It really shouldn't if the power is achieved simply through ECU tuning, but you never know. If the price rumors are true as well, they might just start throwing in a bunch of interior bits to justify the extra price (adding weight).
