Scion tops Consumer Reports 2011 reliability ratings

Let's hope the FR-S continues the legacy. Every other decent sportscar I can think of (excepting the Miata, and maybe the 370Z) is likely to have you digging very deep to cover maintenance once they get beyond their warranty period.

Check Subaru's ratings, that's what you'll be driving in reality. (mechanically)

I have found MR2s to be unbelievably reliable, NA or turbo, with proper maintenance.

Good to hear - I should have made it clear that I was referring to in-production sportscars in my post.

Actually 370z not that great. I've been researching that car since it came out and its below average to me. I really want one too and almost got one but I only buy cars now with great reliability, thanks to GM.

preaching to the choir. Thank you GM, for the lemon I have received. From thy greediness, through your cars. Amen.

+1

I'm doubting much has changed since the April '11 rankings from CR but Subaru has a really good score.

+Another on the MR2. Same for MR2 Spyder. Same for 7th gen Celica. Only ever had to change the oil. Maintenance items (brakes, clutch, etc.) last to high mileage depending how you drive. Unlike...

G35/350z. Things wear faster, problems appear sooner even with religious oil change.

Of course, on Turbo MR2s, once the HFH goes it's a major PITA to deal with, especially if you are hundreds, or thousands of miles from home :P

The only concern I have with this car is how well the Direct Injection will hold up.

The transmission will be fine, not enough power to ruin it. And the motor will be fine, the new FB motors fixed all of the issues with the EJ's and headgaskets.

switchlanez 11-01-2011 03:04 PM

I not too worried about whether direct-injection will hold up.

If you're talking about the engine, it's not all Subaru. Yamaha dug their expert NA tuning hands into it. Yamaha has taken base Toyota engines and reliably re-tuned/added stronger internals to them such as in the BEAMS 3S-GE, 20v 4A-GE, the 2ZZ-GE found in the exotic Lotus Elise plus developed the 2000GT engine and LFA engine. With this being a joint venture (like other joint ventures with GM), we can expect Toyota manufacturing practices and associated reliability to be implemented in the overall vehicle.
