Occasional drivetrain thump when putting into 1st gear

When I have the car at a complete stop and press in the clutch (completely to the floor) and shift the transmission into first gear, I am hearing/feeling a thump from the drivetrain. I am inclined to think it's coming from either the transmission or the rear diff. It does not occur every single time under the typically circumstances but it's happening enough to notice it. The thump is audible and can be felt faintly. I would say it's happening 1 in ever 8-10 times.

It feels similar to shifting into 2nd gear and dumping the clutch too quickly and shocking the drivetrain. However, I do see how putting the transmission into 1st gear properly from a stop should be giving the same results.

Explanation of situation:

At a red light
Clutch in (completely to floor)
Shift transmission to 1st gear
...This is when you can feel/hear the thump
Drive off

Is this normal? Anyone else experiencing what I'm describing?

I did search "thump" with little initial success. BTW if you knew enough about searching, you would know that you cannot link a search page. It brings you to a "this page does not exist" link. So thanks for nothing really.

Upon some more extensive search, I came across this specific post which makes enough sense to me to put the thump to rest.

The thump has been brought up many times.

Simple solution to get rid of thump - put the clutch in while stopped and wait at least 1 second before selecting first gear...

Didn't even need search for this one. Look at the big ass list of issues on the stickied thread at the top of this sub-forum. You'll find your issue there.
