Good Twisty Roads Near Long Beach Area
I want to take this car on a fun canyon run tomorrow early Sunday morning. What do you guys recommend that close withing 30-40 miles. I am beginner to performance driving, so nothing to technical.

Hey man I live in Long Beach and I'm a novice to performance driving as well...in fact my BRZ is my first MT car, lol. While I can't go today we should meetup sometime and do a canyon run. A friend of mine took me out to Azusa already, I was thinking I'd like to check out Malibu next.

Hey guys, there's another thread on the subject that might be of help. Something with Ortega in the title. I'm following it for if/when I take a road trip down to socal :)
Since you both say you're new to this (welcome!), please remember to have fun but also to be smart and approach your and your cars' limits from below, not from above. I know a guy who came into some money, bought himself a 911, headed for the twisties to show off to his buddy ... and wrapped the car around a tree. Fortunately he didn't hit a cyclist and they were both ok, but the car was totaled and now he drives a beater :bonk: |

For something closer from LB than Ortega, there's Santiago Canyon in Irvine. But it's not as long.

Actually even before you do any autox, I highly recommend doing a car control clinic. Here's a thread started by a fellow forum member who did just that and found himself hooked. The great thing about ccc vs autox is that at the former you specifically learn and practice a variety of skills at an event dedicated to beginners. The skills you learn have direct application at autox, at the track, and..... on public roads. Plus it's a lot of fun :) The BMWCCA is the only club I know of specifically that runs them but I know there are others (and BMWCCA welcomes all cars; no BMW required).

If anyone is planning on making a run in SoCal canyons, PM me! I'm always up for it!
