Opti-Guard Coming to Pensacola.

Is anyone interested in having Opti-Guard applied to their car? I am talking to Mike at Mirror Detailing out of Atlanta, and he would be willing to make a trip down to Pensacola if I can put together a small group (3-4 cars even would be enough) of people that would make it worth his while. If you are interested, please PM me and I will try to answer questions to the best of my ability (note that I am not by any means a vendor, just want to have my car protected as best as possible).

The List:
Friday, Dec 7
1) Akuhei
2) Shelby GT500

Saturday, Dec 8
3) King Tut
4) ALBadBoy

How much were you quoted? I might be interested in having opti-gaurd applied to my tc before i head off to college next year. What time/date are you thinking?

akuhei 10-20-2012 02:18 PM

$550 is the regular cost..he said it will cost a little more because he has to come down and pay for his hotel while he is here. Havent gotten a specific number yet. If i find a couple more, i will work on a more exact number. And as for time frame, i would like to have it happen before the turn of the year, and the sooner the better in my opinion. Was looking to work it around a weekend.

Anyone else interested? I have 3-4 people interested, will ask for a price quote off that for now, but the more people the lower the travel costs will be for it.

ALbadboy 10-22-2012 11:57 AM

I'm interested, but it would be a couple weeks before I have the money. So just depends on when you want to have it done.

All right,

I have a better idea of pricing and space to do things. Like I said before, the price is $550 for Opti-Guard on a FR-S. That includes the $250 for the detail and $300 for the Opti-Guard. It will cost around $300 for him to drive down and do the work. That number is split between everyone that decides to do it. So if we have 5 people, its an extra $60 each (so $610 to wash/1-step polish/Opti-Guard). I still have to talk to Mike about the date, but I am shooting for the weekend of November 17th. Its the weekend before Thanksgiving. Is anyone else interested in joining in on this?

Is there any reason that you think having Mike come down is the best solution? I thought I remember reading that there is a local detailer who does the opti-guard. Normally when I think of a group buy, I think of getting a better than normal price, not paying the normal price and then paying some more for travel expenses.

There is a local dealer (Precision Auto Spa in Pensacola) that does Opti-Coat 2.0, which is something that is available to you or I. After quite a bit of research, I have found that a) Opti-Coat 2.0 doesnt last as long/isnt as thick/protective as Opti-Guard, and b) there is a lot of prep work involved with doing either to ensure the car is clean and clear of blemishes. While I have no doubt that the two guys that are down here can handle a good detail, ensuring the paint is spotless and polished before laying down a permanent sealant is a different story to me. Maybe they can do an amazing job, but Mike has a larger name and a larger shop. He's sponsoring events and cars that he's detailed have won regional awards and are up against national awards. His name has been recommended here on the forums and in other forums that I found, were as their name was hardly mentioned.

As for it being a group buy, its not so much in the normal sense. I agree that normally you would think about getting a discount. But honestly, he's traveling over 300 miles to come down here, which is cheaper than me driving up there to have him do it there (after hotel fees for myself and gas). So I am paying less than it would cost me to go up there and get it done. And I figure if he's in the area, others might be interested which would drive the travel costs down for everyone. A person can get there and back on $60 for gas, but add a room for a night (probably need at least one night) and a at least a couple meals eating out. Eventually it all adds up when driving up there.

Ultimately, I would rather have the better product (or what I have been lead to believe is the better product by several large names on different forums) from a better known name, even if the cost isnt a direct discount off his price.

Just talked to Mike and he is offering a 10% discount off the prices quoted. That discount basically covers his travel costs. He also said that he would re-evaluate the total cost based on the number of people who sign up. So the discount could become better if we have more people in the mix of things. So the final cost currently to do an FRS/BRZ is $550.

Also, added a list of people who are in on my opening post.

Is he going to be able to do this many cars in a single day without sacrificing quality of the detail? What location is it going to be done at? I am definitely interested, so add me to the list. I have a buddy who just purchased a Terminator, and I am sure I can convince him to give Opti-Guard a shot as he has had each of his last 2 cars professionally detailed.

It wont be a single day, but will be done over the course of 4 days. He says he can do 2 cars each day without sacrificing the quality, as long as the paint doesnt need extensive correction. The location will be a local home garage in Pensacola (my co-worker's place that has slot 3 taken..its near NAS Pensacola) that has enough space, and Mike will be bringing the equipment he needs to make it all happen. I'll be sure to send the address for everyone when the date and everything settles down.

Sounds good, keep me informed, and I will confirm with my buddy this weekend if he is interested.

No problem. Your buddy's Terminator might be a little more expensive than the FR-S/BRZ. The price of the detail is based on the size of the car. I think it will be around $600 for the Terminator, as that was what I was quoted for another (newer though) Mustang.
