What is the ultimate suspension setup for DD
Just curious what some of the suspension gurus around would consider the ultimate daily driver setup that I could still use to auto-x and maybe some HPDE over the next few years.

Springs (perhaps RCE Yellows...), OEM camber bolt, rear WL camber bushing is a good "stage 1" and what we have in our starter kit lite.
Next, I would add either our bushing package, which adds a few parts in some key places to sharpen response and reduce some of the mushiness from the stock car. Finally, some Koni Yellow dampers would top things off nicely and complete the set-up. Our springs do ride and perform very well with the stock dampers, which are decent, but the Konis are going to be very very good. If you're running wide sticky tires, I'd add some swaybars but they aren't absolutely necessary otherwise. Alternatively, you could switch the springs + konis and go with a good quality coilover. Many of the european coilovers are known for good ride quality in addition to great handling. KW, Bilstein, Ohlins, AST, etc. Lots of travel and good damping are the crucial things here, along with spring rates that are designed for your uses and tire choice. These will perform better at the track at the expense of...well...money. BUT...with the coilovers I would still recommend the bushings as the mushiness of the stock parts will only be magnified even more with the firmer coilovers. So you could start with the springs for now and go from there. If you change to coilovers later the rest of the parts will carry over. For a daily driver, I personally would be perfectly happy with RCE springs, konis, bushings, and alignment parts. I love coilovers, but on my own budget this is the way I would go. - Andrew |
Based on my experience with my last car I decided exactly what was posted above. Spring shock combo with an alignment would be my choice for DD. I plan to do this as well as wheels/tires and some FI. Can't wait for next year and the aftermarket to be in full swing.

There will also be some good options coming out next year that will offer something sort of in between a full-on race coilover and a strut+spring set-up. The main one I'm excited about are the Bilstein PSS coilovers...a decent price for a very high quality height adjustable coilover with fixed damping. In comparison to the taiwanese coilovers, you don't get 32 clicks of adjustment, but the damping itself is very very good. Plus you'll have more travel. KW Variant 1 and Suspension Techniques coilovers will also be good options. Still more money than Konis + springs but if you really want height adjustability these will good options for the price.
The main reason I like Konis or bilsteins + springs over a cheap taiwanese coilover is the damping is just so much better and that's very important to me. I'd gladly trade height adjustability for superior damping. I like strut + spring set-ups because it's just easy to drive, fairly cheap, durable as hell, fun, and can be pretty darn fast. Of course, you need a good spring for all this to be true....no huge drops or silly spring rates. - Andrew |

I can get the KW's really cheap through one of my wholesale accounts, its making it really hard to pass them up but i'm interested to see the Bilstein and Koni options before i do anything. The same vendor also carries Bilstein and Koni so hopefully I can get those for good prices too i guess i should just wait on the other options.
