Thinking of the FR-s

Sup guys. I've been lurking on here for a while now, been really thinking of picking up an FR-S as of lately. But with that 70-80+ page thread regarding the CEL/SL/Idle/chirping issue, it's scaring me. I guess what I want to know is how many of the Cali guys are experiencing this. I'm reading that it may just be a handful of cars that were hit by this issue, and I'm hoping so. As of right now, I'm in a 2011 Lancer Ralliart. It's a fun car, pretty quick, and grippy with the AWD and everything, but it's a SST transmission so I'm iffy about it. Anyways, any feedback is appreciated. Thanks

There is a really small percentage of us that had the cel issue as for the chirping once you break in your car or go over the 5,000 miles mark you dont hear it that much or you just ignore it and keep on driving.

I own a Fr-s and there is no issue with Cel. I do experiencing the chirping sound and already got that HPFP replaced but its still there. I hope the chirping sound will goes away when i hit 5000 miles as OSO 25 said. It doesn't really bother me that much tho.

First off, welcome to the forums! Hope you'll like it here. We've got a great group of people.

I wouldn't be too concerned. You have to keep in mind the amount of cars sold vs the amount of cars that have problems. While there are a lot of us here on the forums, how many more are actually out there that are not? More than likely people are really only going to post if they have a problem vs if they had none. I believe there's already a fix for the chirping noise. Though that doesn't really bother me at all. I've pretty much forgotten all about it. I'm sure they already finding fixes for the CEL as well. It's the first production of this car so there are bound to be problems. The amount of work and testing that goes into cars nowadays is impressive. But even with that, you just can't get absolutely everything.

You can choose to wait if that will make you feel more comfortable about getting it. I'm pretty sure this car is going to be around for a while.

Thanks guys for the input, Fish thanks for the welcome. And it's awesome to see a Cali section too. I think I am pretty set on it. I'll update as time goes by. Just waiting for the right time ($).

....Gonna have to try using shell

I bought mine and I'm glad I did. Except for one small rattle in the trunk area that's being taken care of it's been perfect. I figured if it caused too many problems I'd wait a year till the problems were mostly solved and trade-in for a new one.

I use shell quite often. It's next to my house. But like I've said, I've pretty much forgotten about it so I haven't listened to it in a while. Next time I'll check for the noise again.

I have no chirping issue and use Costco Gas. I have an auto if the transmission makes any difference. Great car, no regrets at all, I love it :)

Calidrifter 10-19-2012 02:46 PM

I use Costco gas as well with no chirps if driving conservatively if I get into the vvti it chirps like a mother f'er. Arco gives me chirps no mattter how I drive.
