opinions on getting JUST a muffler

Hey guys,

this may piss a lot of people off and/or offend people, but quite frankly I am not a racer, nor do I really care ALL that much about HP gains and what not. I was considering getting a catback exhaust system, but I feel like the only reason Im getting the system is for the sound it produces. This is my first sports car, and i had a toyota tacoma before and slapped a flowmaster muffler on it and loved the sound it produced. What are your thoughts on just getting a muffler for my fr-s? Too ricey/poser? Or should i just get the full on exhaust system and spend that extra 300-400 dollars which i wanted to spend on different cosmetic mods.

I took my own muffler to a performance exhaust shop and had them build me a catback for less than $400. IMO, the tubing diameter increase is worth it.

I was thinking about that as well. Does it matter which muffler I get? As in do they all universally fit any car? I liked the sound of the perrin catback and the invidia, would i be able to get my hands on just the muffer and have a shop build a catback for me? My only concern is if I can get a similar sound with a custom made catback

just get a muffler delete (track pipe) from nameless. It's $99 and sounds pretty good from all the youtube video's I've heard so far.

Probably wants something quieter.

What you're looking for OP, is called an axleback. It's just the rearmost portion of the exhaust.

so then what exactly is a muffer compared to an axleback? If im not mistaken the muffler is the box looking thing that connects to the tips right? Thats what i had on my truck

an axle back is the muffler along with the tips and everything from behind the axle (small sections of pipe connecting it all).

I think an axleback like the this one would probably suit you:

the axelback from nameless is 550, and I was thinking of getting the invidia catback for around the same price. The thing is, I was considering just the muffler only because it would cost around 200 bucks and that way I can save a few hundred for some cosmetic mods.

Or you can spend half that on a track pipe...

ill look into that low trq. thanks for the advice. Ill have to hear the youtube clips for the sound

bcmakesiteasy 10-18-2012 05:19 PM

as for the track pipe, would I need to get two of them since the frs has a dual exhaust?

You don't need two tips if you're ok with the looks of it. The Nameless one is designed to work as a single tip.

Other companies offer similar products with two tips though if you wanted them.

bcmakesiteasy 10-18-2012 05:26 PM

yeah I would definitely want the two tips cause i like the look of it. What other companies could you recommend that have two tips? (with good sound)
