Is anyone else disappointed by the STI offerings so far?

Looking at the list of STI parts I feel as if were looking at the SPT offering for the rest of the Subaru lineup. To me SPT was always the 'Sport' version of the Subaru OEM parts and STI was the 'Race' version (well, not race per say, but the more aggressive of the two).

I look at the SPT offerings for the Impreza and Forester and I feel like that's the treatment that the BRZ got, but it has an STI badge rather than the SPT badge.

I'm hoping that the actual STI will be a bit more aggressive compared to the bits that have been rolled out so far, and hopefully there will be some internals we can buy as well.

Time will tell.

SPT = STI, just in America it's SPT.

As far as parts, I think they're okay:

Brake pads
Springs
Oil Filter
Strut bar
Front lip
Side skirts
Sports muffler
Battery tie down
18" wheels
17" wheels
Oil cap
Gurney flap for Limited spoiler
Push button
Lug nuts

Seems like pretty much the same stuff every previous performance Subaru was offered, plus or minus a few things... Unfortunately these days the greats like STi and TRD aren't churning out pure racing parts as much anymore, as the market simply doesn't demand them like they used to in the 80's and 90's. You used to be able to get Weber carburetors, HKS cams, and all sorts of TRD racing parts through the TRD catalog in the early 90's.

Agreed, with the current economy it's clearly a different landscape out there for automotive performance parts.

I knew people who took out loans to tweak their cars and no way in the world should they have been allowed to get those loans.

Who takes out a loan to mod a car?

Well, technically I did. I used a credit card to fund my engine swap.... at the time my 3rd engine blew up, I spent all my money up, I had no transportation, and it was either open a CC and spend $2k on an engine swap or spend more than that on a new car... Drop shipped the engine to my door and swapped it in over a weekend. I'm still paying the stupid thing off, though...

^And that is why project cars will never be a "sound" idea.

I bet there isn't even an STi version of this car.

The aftermarket is a way better source for performance anyway.

I did the exact same thing with my RS after it was on its 2nd engine blew. No mods, just luck of the draw as the 7th owner (I was young and stupid). The car is gone now, but yeah, headache for years.

All I can say is, hey my car has logged 20k+ trouble-free miles since then, I picked up 50hp and 25lb/ft over stock, and I average 33mpg. Not a bad deal for $2k and a weekend's worth of work.

Bravo, sir.

Nope. Not dissapointed a bit. I would say that I'm more giddy than anything.
