Buyers Remorse?
(This is my first post so please don't rip me a new one, if this was talked about please point me in the right direction)
This is A question for those of you who don't have 27k easily laying around. My question to you: At any point in time did you feel bad-even guilty about getting this car? I only ask because I'm 22, work two jobs and been saving for this for a few months now. I make after taxes around 2k a month, I feel like I should be saving this for college or I should get my mom a new car-both of our cars are on their last leg...(err wheel) so to say. Mine breaks down a lot, my friends have wealthy families so they just got done graduating from 4yr college and have nice new cars...and well just for once I wanted to get myself something at this magnitude...but now I'm feeling guilty. Why are they entitled to these kinds of things and I cant? Would it be the right thing to do to get my mom her car first? Should I feel guilty? I really want this...The first time I saw this car in person my heart stopped and I just knew... |
I say college first, all the fun you want later. The piece of mind you get from being financially stable is way better than having large debt IMO
|
Get your car. If you can afford it. At the end of the day it's you that needs to be happy.

I'm 21, and in college -- still. My personal opinion? keep plugging away at work and school. Don't get yourself in so much debt so early. If your car finally goes, take a few K and buy something else. Spend 3k on a decent, older Civic or Accord. Fortunaly I came from a wealthy family BUT they DO NOT throw money at me and i'm forced to work for anything I want. I know the feeling of seeing many other people our age running around in new cars... Its frustrating and irritating -- I know.
I just want to say that you're not the only one. I would do absolutely anything for a BRZ -- but right now -- its not feasible. I'm in school BUT I do no currently have a job. Keep your head up -- that's all that I can do.:happy0180::thumbup: |
thats not really enough money to be generating that much debt imo. if i were you i would buy a used miata with three or four paychecks. that way, instead of car payments you can invest in mods. if you ever feel like it is too much money you just stop because you arent forced to make payments. the car will be just as fun and you wont pay nearly as much on insurance or interest or payments. simply not having that financial weight will make the car more enjoyable.

I can afford it, its a bitch saving-I think thats a good part of me feeling guilty about spending it.
The way I saw it, get my car. Take out a loan for 8k for two years to get myself credit. This way when I go to college at 24(age you can take out shit ton of loans) Ill have something in my name and Ill have some money saved up. When my mom car dies that's when I spend whatever it is I have. my goal for her is 14k :) |

My two cents... I'd recommend you save the money for college first.
Within my extended family(my dad's brothers and sisters), all of my cousins, even younger ones, had nice cars. I was extremely jealous of what they were driving around while I always had to drive a car w/ no AC. I owned a '87 bmw 325, '92 240sx, and a '95 civic. I had to pay for college myself by taking a few loans out because my parents were barely scratching the bottom of the middle class. I worked hard, got my bachelors in electrical engineering, and now the only one out of my cousins w/ a stable job. With all that I accomplished, I decided to finally treat myself when I knew I had a stable income. You should wait. I know you've got a great heart too for thinking of your mom. Your time will come, young Jedi. Life is very tough... Patience is the key. |
Hey man, we all love this car but you really should really focus on being financially and educationally stable. The problem is that if you get this car, the thought of money will always be in the back of your mind and will really spoil your fun.
You know what you should do? Get a used miata! |

Thanks...the only question is what to go to school for.. My dream college is around 50k a year if I want to dorm, which I do... Even if I find something cheaper it would be 40k a year at most probably. Seems near impossible to save for-I should pick a different career. anyway, Thanks for your input guys. It helps and means a lot. |
